Hey Gang,

I'm planning a roughly week-long trip (schedule tbd) to Newfoundland the day after the Hip show in Ottawa starting July 4th and I was wondering if anyone has any good travel tips for me. I've spent a fair bit of time there for work but it has primarily been around the St.John's area. This time I think I will focus the majority of my travel time in the Western part of the province. I've heard Gros Morne park is not to be missed and I heard checking out the Viking Settlement up north is worth the drive. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, I am an avid fly-fisherman and would welcome any hot spots that you may know where I can wet a line or two.

Thanks in advance.
We were there last summer but stayed within the Irish Loop and St. John's so I can't help with any ideas beyond that - but I can suggest you order thefree travel guide - it's full of information, tips, coupons, maps, etc: https://www.newfoundlandlabrador.com/Pl ... uides.aspx
I have driven most of Western NF. My highlights are as follows:

*Ferry from Syndey to Port aux Basques
*Drive from the TCH to Burgeo (Beautiful drive)
*Drive the Stephenville to Cape St. George Loop (Just Wow)
*Corner brook (great city), stay at the Glen Mill

I am sure they have tons of tourist related stuff but my trip was all work and very little play.

Have a good trip.
Hey Goulet!

My wife and I will be in NFLD from June 30 — July 13. First time out there for us to. I'll throw together our itinerary for you this week. I've looked into a couple of interesting things, ie rafting and checking out the caribou herds, etc.

We're staying in Norris Point in Gros Morne July 9 — 12.

Totally pumped about it.
I was there a couple years back for work and stayed in Clarenville (about 1 1/2 hours west of St Johns). I had never heard about it, but at the hotel I was staying at there was a write up about an old WWII bomber crash site in the area. Anyways, I decided the one night to go................

All I can say is, if you are into planes or history or anything, it was well worth the trip. It was located only about 20 minutes from Clarenville and then about a 20 minute hike at the most (not 40 like it said in the write up above).

The drive is very scenic, the hike is as well, and when you arrive to the wreckage site (which is quite large scattering of debris).....well its just kind of surreal.............and the overall view on top of the hill is pretty amazing as well.

I guess some of the major components have been taken by locals, but there is still a ton of remnants left. I have to admit I couldn't imagine taking anything myself, you truly did feel like you were at a grave site........

I have some photos, I will try and find a couple to post

EDIT: Here are a a few
