Got my tickets after 10 minutes of figuring out how to get to the link!!!!!
There's so many great bands I'd love to get a pass, but I'm moving into our new house on June 30th, so I think those few weeks will be unpacking/painting/sweating and swearing!
Thankfully the ball and chain is a big Hip fan too, so it was an easy sell for a "night off".
Hopefully Sam Roberts is the same day or something, so I can see other groups!

Well if they're playing two blocks from my house, I guess I kind of *have* to go. Oh well, I thought I'd give them a break for a year or so after 2 world container shows and the shows in brockville and kingston this year, but I suppose a 5 minute walk isn't too much to ask.
Not a huge fan of the lineup this year, I have to say. Especially after how great last year was.

Had a converation about this at work today. Last year's lineup did not thrill me, where this year there's pretty much a band a night I would go see. Averages out to about $13/act if I can fit it all in. But I was in the minority. I know there are a few more headliners to announce.

I got the gold circle last time, due to a bad experience with the crowd being a bit too crowdy the previous time. It is off to the side a bit, but still a decent line of sight. It's not as close as you could get out in GA if you are pushy enough but it's still better than most people will be able to do. Private bar + washroom is nice too. (I thought it would be access to the city hall washrooms somehow but no, it's just a roped off cluster of portable ones.) I enjoyed it.
Edit: Just realized it's at Lebreton Flats now. My previous experience was at Festival Plaza (City Hall) ... so the setup could be totally different
For $425 you can get a similar private area pass (Empire Grill Clubhouse) for the whole week. Not a bad deal at all if you go to shows every day. Tickets on that one on transferable too (you get a ticket for each day.)

Can you tell me where you found the link? I can't seem to find it. Looking to get a day pass.
Thanks.

In the main page news item, you HAVE to click on the link that says "www.hip.com". You would think it would take you just to the main page, but it actually takes you to another version of the news item, this one with a link and password.
I think it's Mav's way of testing for intelligence, and as usual, I was very very slow on the uptake.

Thanks for the tip on finding it. I got it now. Obviously I have failed Mav's intelligence test!

Read somewhere today that the Ottawa Bluesfest is now the world's seventh largest music festival...Any guesses as to the top 6?

These three would be at or near the top of my list:
Summerfest
SXSW
Roskilde Festival

Roskilde Festival

I would guess Wacken would be up there too.

The Weakerthans too! There's a list of the full lineup here:

You could probably add Glastonbury to that list as well.

It's got a great line-up this year. I love Bluesfest; it's such an incredible few weeks, and for the prices they charge it's got even more value added. And having said that: I'm still in Calgary, so I'll be passing on it this year. Saw the Hip there in 2002 and 2004; if you get the chance, you must go.
