My wife caught it and said it was great...that Sammy was quite funny.
Anyone record this and is willing to post it? I'd like to see it...

Sam Roberts is coming to Edmonton July 23rd fot EdFest.
That is awesome news, and I will be there for sure. How can I pass on a free show from one of Canada's greatest artists?

I just got this email from umusic.
did anyone record yesterdays live performance?
I only saw this one video:
Check out the Rogers/MTV Live At The Concert Hall performance starting May 26th on any of the following outlets: online at mtv.ca, on MTV Live (the week of May 26th) or CTV as a 30 minute television special - May 31st @ Midnight, June 7th @ 1:30am, and June 14th @ 12:30am.
If you can't wait for the 26th, check out Sam Roberts Band performing live on MuchMusic's MuchOnDemand show on Friday May 16th @ 5pm EST. If you live in the GTA and want to join the studio audience, call 416.870.6824.

I'm with you Drez, waiting on my "pre-order" I don't know why they don't send these things out like a week before hand.05-20-2008, 06:54 PM
I listened to it on my way home, and I love it. It really started off with a bang and had great flow that carried into the rest of the album. I'm no audiophile, but I'd say it has spectacular mixing/arrangements. It really adds to the power of the individual songs.

Currently, mostly due to financial reasons, I'm on a "if I can't buy it on vinyl, I'm not going to buy it" kick. It started a couple of years ago, and of course there are a couple of exceptions (after all, World Container wasn't released on LP). But after an "interesting" day at work, which I dubbed the "Tuesday Morning Slaughter" in an email I sent out this morning to an out of country comrade, I decided, fuck it, I need to get this record. It's Sam after all. He is on par with Das Hip with my fandom. Definitely made the trip to Bellevegas easier to justify. I need to get the record; period.
I currently live in Port Elgin, Ontario; if you read the Walrus, you may know of us from the Wal-Mart fight in the fall (The paper I write for was mentioned the following month in the letters section about media outlets being sued over the coverage of the whole thing). If you travel throughout Midwestern Ontario, you may be aware of the sunsets, the beach, etc. What you may not know that there isn't really any place to buy new rock and roll albums in this town the Tuesday they're released. Sure, if I wanted to pick up Billy Joel's latest greatest hits record in environmentally friendly packaging, I can do that, along with the "70's Pop" digital download card, but it is evident that people who have grown up here have missed the thrill of "new music day" growing up.
Lucky for me, the Shoppers in town sells iTunes gift cards, so I can top up my account. My balance this morning was at $9.02, just shy of the $9.99 needed for the new Sam record. My local Shoppers was fresh out of iTunes gift cards after work. I say to myself, "Hell, there's a Wal Mart in Owen Sound, they'll have the hard copy. I'll peel off the wrap, pop in it in the stereo, and have a nice soundtrack for the drive home. And if they don't have it, Zeller's should."
For the unknown, Owen Sound is roughly 40 km from Port Elgin, with two different ways to get there. Today's discovery was that both ways get you there around the same time, but the one that doesn't send you through downtown Owen Sound is less likely to have you go into a blind fit of rage due to the inane traffic light set up in the hub of Grey County.
So I get there unscathed, in good time, with a lot to go before having to work later on. Wal Mart Owen Sound: 0/1. Zeller's Owen Sound: 0/2. "Is there any place else to buy music in town (population 22,000)?" I ask. The kids at both department stores recommend the other. Music World closed in February, but HMV should be here by the end of the summer. The Shoppers in Owen Sound was also short an iTunes card, but had plenty of Pure Tracks and Napster ones. I actually think I still have a credit at Pure Tracks from when "Vaccination Scar" was released in 2004."
Dejected, I head back to Port Elgin to get ready for the photo shoots I had tonight, stopping at the Mac's up the street from my office, which of course, was stocked full of $20 iTunes cards. I pick it up, load it into my account and press 'buy album' on the iTunes store.
It then gives me the option to buy the remainder of the album for $9.00, as I had already bought the "Them Kids" single back in March.
So now, I now have a $20.02 credit to my iTunes account.
So back from taking photos, and covering school board meetings, I'm half-way through the record. And I like what I hear. So that makes it all worth while.
Cheers,
Pat

Yeah the album is quite good. No real stand-outs for me as of yet, just a solid listen from start to finish.
