Match-up #24 - Thompson Girl Vs. Bobcaygeon/b]
Listen to the two songs in the match-up Back to Back, and consider the lyrics of the song. Feel free to post an unbiased analysis of [b]both
songs in this thread, but please refrain from cheerleading or making predictions for your favourites.
A no brainer for me... phew. The tough ones were wearing me out!
This is the second one I've really needed to debate. Northern Manitoba girls or a Nazi riot?
A 1 vs a 16 here clearly
I think pitting Phantom Power vs. Phantom Power is just wrong and cruel. Tongue
I'm a big Thompson Girl fan. To me it's the most unique sounding Hip song.
I'll agree with Billy on the uniqueness, but Bobcaygeon was the song that convinced me to buy PP and therefore spiraling me down into the seedy underworld of Hip fandom, never to see the light of day again.
Bobcaygeon? Really? That one's a bathroom break for me.

Everytime I hear that song all I can think about is how they literally recorded it in the kitchen. Makes me like it more for some reason.

Cool link, thanks for that. :thumb:
Had to go with Bobcaygeon, it's the song that convinced me to get tickets and check out this band I knew nothing about...

or songs one after another…

The beginning of BobC reminds me of Norwegian Wood, though I think Gord had a little more fun then Lennon did.
This one is easy for me, Thompson Girl is in my top five with its geography and lyrics of isolation - sort of the detailed specs of its wintertime, the house is solitude with options and your bride of the northern woods is starting to get on your nerves a wee bit. I also think that if Thompson Girl had been played live as much as caygeon [58 vs. 416] it would not be taking the thumping that it is.
Bobcaygeon has really done it for me in the past, but after really listening to both songs, TG is doing it for me today.
