Well, Kingston was my 30th show. The first show I ever attended was Darien Lake in 2000 and got to see Pigeon Camera, Emporer Penguin and The Completists....3 of my personal favorites that I now know, 8 years later, don't get played too often. However, I have never heard my very favorite Hip song Cordelia, and it is a huge reason why I continue to see the boys all over North America. To me it is like a football team trying to win The Super Bowl, or a guy that plays the same lottery number every day and never wins. You just keep dreaming!
Now honestly, I was thinking if there was a chance to hear it, the Kingston show was it (yes I know it popped up one or two shows last year) but sadly I was out of luck. What I would love to know is what your "one song" is? Or, if you were lucky enough to hear yours after years of waiting, what was it is like?
I hope this generates some interesting conversation!
Just to comment on In Violet Light and In Between Evolution, I was never able to see a live version of "Dark Canuck" or "Heart of the Melt". I guess many hip fans didn't catch Heart, but Dark was played a couple times on the tour, just not at the shows I hit I guess.
Although I don't ever see Heart making a comeback since it didn't seem to be a favorite of the bands, hopefully Dark Canuck gets cycled back in to the setlist in the future.
I saw the Hip 7 times in 2007 and didn't see Nautical once! Always seemed to play it the night before. Never seen Cordelia either, but remember that MuchMusic special? The fans had to basically beg them to play it, and they still were hesitant.
After 16 shows Cordelia and Thugs are the 2 somewhat realistic ones that I would love to hear..

YES I do, and I can't find that clip anywhere...at the risk of sending my own thread off topic, does anyone have a link to that?
And as far as the "always seemed like they played (given song) the night before or the night after" problem, I had that with Long Time Running for years!
Escape Is At Hand... - It was supposed to be played in Belgium (my last show of last years European tour) but it was bumped off the setlist due to time restraints. It would have won that (not too great) show back for me had they played it. I was gutted, especially since I'd been saying earlier in the day to the other guys I was with how much I'd love to hear it.

I would do anything to see Emperor Penguin.
I know that if they ever started playing it at a show I was at... I would definetly get emotional. I don't care. It would be the pinnacle of my "fanship" for The Hip.
What that song means to be is indescribable.

And on a side note, I took my girlfriend to the Kingston show the other night, and she didn't get Nautical Distaster...her fav of all time. How did that come about?! I promised it to her, as 99 out of 100 times its there...damn me.

That's funny because I've seen Thugs and Cordelia twice - out of 12 shows - but my favourite tune, Escape at Hand only once. I've yet to see Dark Canuck, and I had given up hope of ever seeing it live, until they played it on the last leg of their American tour this year. I would kill to see that, and Impossibilium live. I guess that's why I saw them 7 times on this last tour; always hoping to hear something special.
inch an hour... i think my best shot was during the 2000 double set shows, it made a few appearences.
new orleans -> nautical was something that i'd always dreamed of hearing but thought could never happen. sure enough, they played it in london last year.
things like that and fiddler's becoming a regular gives me that feeling at the beginning of all hip shows that anything can be played. i agree with the first post that it's one of the things that keeps me coming back.
Like many here, I'd love to hear Thugs and after 34 gigs, nothing...Much like Ben, I thought I'd get to hear it...I met Sinclair after London '06 and asked him to play it in Amsterdam or Utrecht...Nothing!

Put It Off and/or Emperor Penguin. I may have heard the latter at an "Evening With" show, but I really don't recall that setlist at all. I do know that I got a slightly botched version of Opiated that night, and that would be my third choice if it wasn't covered already.
I had a long-standing problem getting to see 'locked in the trunk of a car', which is my favourite hip song. If I went to a show, it'd be played the night before or the night after. It was even on the setlist for the first show I ever saw as the final song in the encore, but they called an audible and played little bones instead. So naturally I was thrilled in montreal at the first club show when that drum pattern kicked in and Gord said "this might be the only song ever dedicated to dostoevsky, but this is for dostoevsky. This is locked in the trunk of a car." I think I jumped about 4 feet in the air. And now they've played it at 3 of the last four shows I've seen. Go figure.
Being realistic (i.e. not smalltown bringdown or sharks), I guess I'd have to say inevitability of death or something on.
I've only seen the hip four times and i'm waiting to hear..... pigeon camera, membership, 50 mission cap, emperor penguin & the dark canuck. maybe one day :roll:
