Another great iMax concert!
that looks fantastic
Oh ma Ganesha. Every time I hear a rolling stones song that isn't: a)studio version or b)a single, I ruin my pants. I always forget how amazing they are. I've never seen anything except for those nature films in imax, this however is a trip that is going to be made.
This will be fantastic. I have seen the Stones about 8 times and I swear every time they get better with age.

Yes their concerts are 80% warhorse songs (Satisfaction, JJF, Brown Sugar, etc), but then that other 20% of the time when they break out Shine A Light, Memory Motel, Bitch, Dead Flowers, Rip This Joint, Gimmie Shelter, Rocks Off, Sway, Can't You Hear Me Knockin'..........this is when you realize how truly incredible these guys are.

Some will disagree, but to me they have always been and always will be the best band ever, they are what music is all about.

That 20% you're talking about...

In Moncton they played Live With Me, Midnight Rambler, and Infamy.

Nothing compares to the Halifax show though...
Where I heard the opening of my favourite Stones song, that I would say would fall into that 20% category.

I think that's nothing compared to what I would feel if I heard the opening few bars to Emperor Penguin at a Hip show though.
I seen the Stones live twice, 2005 in Moncton, 2006 in Halifax...the two best concerts i've ever been too!
I've always been a fan of the Stones; particularly Let It Bleed, Exile on Main Street, and Some Girls. They are definitely one of the greatest, but I can't call them THE greatest.....

Though I must say that I did see them put on a horrendous show here in Cincinnati in September 1989 (holy crap ...its been almost 20 years). It was the Steel Wheels Tour, and I don't think I've ever seen a major act with that kind of resources at their disposal turn out such a rotten-sounding and disappointing performance. Granted, it was in old Riverfront Stadium, one of those round, cookie-cutter, all-purpose facilities with crappy hard astro turf, so maybe some of the sound issues could be excused i suppose...but I know that lack of effort was partly to blame. Besides, I was sitting down on the field about 30 rows back, so it shouldn't have sounded so horrible.

I will say that Mick did his fair share. He was energetic and animated like he usually is...but maybe this little anecdote will help explain my disappointment:

At one point, they began a number, and amidst the distorted muddiness of the bass and drums, I couldn't recognize what song they were leading into....at least until Mick started belting out lyrics. It was "Satisfaction". I thought, "Satisfaction? Where's that signature riff...one of the most recognizeable and legendary riffs in the history of Rock?". I surveyed the giant stage and soon had my answer: in a dark corner at the very back of the stage, behind a stack of amps, there they were -- both Ronnie and Keith -- leisurely dragging off their cigarettes.

Good work, fellas.

Ya, they played Monkey Man in Toronto at the ACC during the 40 Licks Tour, along with Rocks Off, Let It Bleed, Neighbours, Love In Vain, Can't You hear Me Knockin', Mannish Boy,.......It was the best show from them I had seen, completely stripped down and full of great songs. I have a boot of the show if anyone is interested.

And On a side note, I was in Cleveland last year.............hearing the beginning of Emperor Penguin was pretty surreal as well! :thumb:
I saw the Stones in 02 in Toronto at the Skydome and in 06 at Frank Clair Stadium in Ottawa. 2 very very good shows. Almost surreal to be there listening to them live. Every person in the stadium seemed like they were singing along.

That one was one of the most fulfilling concerts I've ever seen, and I've seen hundreds. :thumb:
