I didn't think Brokeback was as great as everybody said it was, but Ledger's performance was amazing.

I haven't seen it. I was told that it is a bit confusing at the beginning........... but it all gets worked out in the end..........
On a more serious note, it is sad when any person at such a young age passes away, celebrity or not. Ledger was a gifted actor with a bright future ahead of him. It is a sad loss, no more sad of a loss that a 22 year old killed at work, but no less either.

I thought it was a very good film. The story is rather heartwrenching, and the performances are superb.
I give it four 'road apples' out of five.
Ledger's death is no more important than any other death.
I did like "Monster's Ball", though. :rambo:
skippy the wonder dog Wrote:dannya2 Wrote:what i think is sad is that a 22 year old kid here in vancouver died at work building the canada line yesterday and a bigger deal is made about another famous person surrounded by pills dying. if someone dies surrounded by pills ultimately their choices, actions and decisions put them six feet under.
By that token, anyone who dies in a workplace accident is a victim of his own decision to avoid workplace safety and failure to invoke the right to refuse unsafe work. Anyone who dies of cancer or heart disease is a victim of his own lifestyle choices. Anyone who dies in a car accident is a victim of his own decision to drive a car, and furthermore probably a victim of his own negligence.
And anyone who dies by suicide, of course, well f**k him.
f**k 'em all, in fact. People die every day, right?
Thanks for giving me a new perspective.
I'm no doctor but I'm pretty sure that it's almost impossible to prevent some forms of cancer. :?
tigerthelion Wrote:If "Brokeback Mountain" wasn't about homosexuality, I doubt if it would have received half as much critical acclaim.
Not just homosexuality, but that it featured two straight, name actors playing gay cowboys.
On the other hand, it was shot beautifully.

Correct. But there is no need to be accurate while being brutal and tasteless.
We don't actually know how Ledger died yet, but that didn't stop someone from concluding that it was his own damn fault and therefore not worthy of attention.
I say, you choose not to kill yourself when you realize your own mortality, then your eventual death is your own damn fault and I have no sympathy for you.
This new perspective is proving quite interesting. I'm not sure I'm human at all anymore....
River Phoenix comes to mind?
either way its still sad. I was just asking about Brokeback Mountain, because most of the people who said they liked it to me absolutley loved it, and most of the people who had negative comments were just ignorant gay bashers, when on further investigation, revealed that they had never in fact seen the movie... so ya.
why doesn't it surprise me, that the douchebags at Fox news would do something like this

fucking disgusting
A US CHURCH described as a "hate group" has promised to form a picket at Heath Ledger's funeral because he played a gay cowboy.
“God hates the sordid, tacky bucket of slime seasoned with vomit known as Brokeback Mountain – and He hates all persons having anything to whatsoever to do with it.
“Heath Ledger is now in Hell, and has begun serving his eternal sentence there.”

The best part is we pretend these scumbags are different then the rest of the so called "Christan" groups.

Actually, I'm finding all this new perspective refreshing. I mean, again, people die every day, so why not go to town on it?
I mean, it's not like a reasonable person would hear that kind of thing and wonder which wankel rotors have to be swinging loose in Gibson's frontal lobe, to react to someone's untimely death with that kind of spite and malice. No, a reasonable person would think, this is a guy surrounded by drugs who was in a faggot movie, so good riddance!
And I don't think any reasonably people would listen to that and wonder at the spavined decrepitude of our collective conscience, that enough of us take sufficient pleasure in such spite to keep Gibson on the air. No, that's because reasonable people figure when a guy's in a faggot movie and dies from an apparent overdose, well, there's a faggot who made his choices, so let's all have a good giggle.
Hell, yeah. When I think like this I find I get such an optimistic outlook on the world and on my fellow man that I can barely contain myself.
God is love!

I love this post...in a non-gay way of course 8)

The best part is we pretend these scumbags are different then the rest of the so called "Christan" groups.
That's fucked up.

hock:
The bible is quite clear that nobody can judge except for God. Yet, all these so called "Christians" do is judge. Those bible thumping jerks don't know shit about whether or not Heath Ledger had a relationship wiht God or not.
I understand your sentiment towards so called Christians. It is a widespread problem. Most of my family (aunts, uncles, cousins) hold it against me because I don't go to a church building. It bothers me but there's nothing I can do to change their minds. It's unfortunate.
Believe it or not, I've changed my stance on homosexuality. While I do commit many sins and make many mistakes, I do try to live a Christian life. I used to be steadfast in my anti-gay thoughts. Most people in the community I live in are very much against gays. I have since softened my stance. The bottom line is that I believe that LOVE is the main theme of the bible. Love overrides all in my opinion. The bible tells me to love everyone. God loves everyone. If God loves people, regardless of their sexual preference, then who am I to pass judgement?
Do I think Heath Ledger is in hell because he played a gay cowboy? Of course not. Even if he was gay in real life, I still have no clue about God's future plans for him.
BTW, sorry to get religious on y'all.
Apparently this makes more sense to them:
JG 19:22-29 A group of sexual depraved men beat on the door of an old man's house demanding that he turn over to them a male house guest. Instead, the old man offers his virgin daughter and his guest's concubine (or wife): "Behold, here are my virgin daughter and his concubine; let me bring them out now. Ravish them and do with them what seems good to you; but against this man do not do so vile a thing." The man's concubine is ravished and dies. The man then cuts her body into twelve pieces and sends one piece to each of the twelve tribes of Israel.
