I'd Probably have to go with PJ also
- Not only do they have long setlists, they have amazing songs in their set lists and you never know whats going to be thrown into rotation. Whether it be a B- side or whatnot they show the love to practically every song in their library.
- Mike McCready. Holy Crap. He absolutely punishes his guitar when he does solos.
- Eddie Vedder. Showmanship that can only be paralled by Gord- but less banter (not quite the word i'm looking for) , and the way he converses with the crowd and jokes around is just magical
- Yellow Ledbetter. Pure. Magic. I love how when McCready plays his end solo and the rest of the band just kind of sits down and takes it all in. Not to mention when they go into Little Wing, my god...
So wheres the thread cops to keep this on topic? lmao

EMPEROR PENGUIN
/pipedream.
They need to played "The Dark Canuck" at a show I go to. I pleaded Gord to re-add it to the setlist at the San Diego show last year and he said he'd think about it and he did come through, just not at a show I was at.
Opiated is a gem I've never witnessed live...would love to hear it.
Something tells me the next Hip album is going to be the best one yet.
Pearl Jam are great too, but come on.. only half the stuff on each of the albums is good, where as 90%+ of the tunes on each Hip album is pure gold.
Gord is a way better singer than Eddie, and Rob is a much better guitarist than Mike.

Personally,
I find all this The Hip vs. Pearl Jam talk foolish.
I find The Hip vs. any band foolish.
Heck, Any band vs. any band is laughable to me.
Its all a matter of opinion, and its not worth debating if you ask me.
Why not make the next album a "double cd album"....
The second cd could be a 'Live Concert' or a 'full acoustic' one....
Now wouldn't that be awesome

Though we've all gotten high at a Hip gig WITHOUT narcotics, PJ just has this way of convincing their fans that this night could be their last...And even if it's not, it's 10 times different from the night before...A lot of that is the setlists, sure...But yeah, the jam are just in a league of their own...
I would argue that the Hip are as much in a league of their own as Pearl Jam, just in a different way. I've seen Hip shows that were just as incredible as any concert I've ever seen, including Pearl Jam, Springsteen, and U2. When I think of the power the Hip have over an audience, I'm always reminded of their mind-blowing performance at Sasquatch '06. With all due respect to Ben Harper who closed the show that night with a great set, the Hip's performance blew every other band off the stage. They were truly in the zone that day, and for younger bands it was a lesson in how to kick ass. I remember feeling sorry for The Shins who had the misfortune of having to go on right after the Hip. No band on earth could've topped that performance.

Is that a Joke??
i'd say 50% of IBE and WC is gold at best. your last sentence is just plain silly. If you think Gord can sing better then Eddie. Gord is amazingly unique but really not much of a singer, especially live.

I would have to get opinions from people that were there to see Harper or other bands and not the Hip to really believe that statement.
I've seen Harper and I would say he blows the Hip off the stage, but in a very different way, I can see lots of Hip fans not enjoying a Ben Harper show which is cool, it has a vibe that Hip fans may find a bit too laid back for their liking.

It's Yidbon's opinion. Just because you disagree doesn't make Yidbon's opinion silly or wrong.

I was just saying that because some one asked harshly if one of my Posts was a Joke.
PEARL JAAAAAAAAAAM AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAJLKHDfsio
As with the IBE tour, offer 3 (or more) soundboard recordings via download for a reasonable price.
And longer setlists with more gems from the vault. (Like PJ! - sorry  ).

I kind of agree with Yidbon. I don't care for much of PJ's catalogue. The Hip have WAAAY more songs that I love/like than Pearl Jam does. By a long shot.
I don't know why you say Gord isn't much of a singer, "ESPECIALLY LIVE." Gord is a fine singer live. His voice gets ragged after touring for a while but whose doesn't? Eddie is a good singer also. I like both guys as singers. I don't like Eddie any more than Gord, though.
I was listening to a mix cd the other day. "Worldwide Suicide" played and then right after, "Fighter, Fighter" played through my headphones. It struck me at that moment that I enjoyed listening to "FF" much more than "Worldwide Suicide". I was reminded that The Hip are still numero uno to me. :rambo:
That being said, I'd love to see PJ live. The Hip have been shortening the length of their live shows recently, so PJ has them beat there. I think the atmosphere at a PJ show in Canada would probably be more exciting and electric than at a Hip show, from what I've seen on videos and whatnot. I'm not sure if PJ are better performers live or that their fans are just louder and more into their shows than fans at a Hip show. Whatever the case may be, PJ should come to the Maritimes this year so I can experience their show firsthand.
Skippy mentioned an idea earlier in this thread that I agree with. He mentioned bringing back Davis Manning. I think that would be pretty cool. Recently, Steve Berlin played with the Hip and I loved that song.
