Hey all,
I recently came into some extra bucks (Christmas Bonus) and am in the market for a nice mp3 player/video player/ipod thingy.
However after multiple websites, hours of research, and some bitchy Amazon reviewers- I am still utterly confused.
So I ask you, which is your preferred device? I would like to have a fair amount of storage (at least 8 gb, although the larger seem quite appealing) and music playing and ease of use is more important to me than the video/other functions.

Thanks!
Ipod.
The market has spoken: iPod.
I bought a 30-gb ipod about 18 months ago and have been reasonably satisfied. However, recently it has started to freeze for no good reason on occasion. It's frustrating.

When I was in the market, I started a similar thread here. Read through and you'll get a sense of people's opinions I think.

I cant say much about the new touch screen iPods, but they seem pretty cool if your looking for the latest craze. I have a 30GB iPod Video and Im very happy with it, its got a very good screen if your into using it for videos, pictures and movies, otherwise dont spend the extra cash and get a nano or a touch screen. The other thing is iTunes, its a great way to organize music, all in all you cant really go wrong with an iPod I think.

I havent heard much good about the Zune and Ive never used one so I cant really give an opinion, but I personally would steer clear. The creative zen ones seem better than those, give them a look..

You can't argue with the iPod. It's had a lot of success. I like mine. It's easy to use, and has a lot of user friendly features. It's also got a lot of accesories, which helps if you're gonna attach it to your car stereo, or go and workout or something.
I've heard good things about the Zune, but most people prefer the iPod.
Ipod. I've been using Ipod for years, and would never switch. Durable, intuitive, and sleek. Plus, the few occasions I've had to deal with customer service, Apple has shown it's colours as being truly loyal to their customers and genuinely interested in correcting your problems.
I just got an 80GB Ipod for Xmas,my first, and I think its great so far. very cool device, make sure you get one of those stands you can listen to it in your room as well, I got a little JBL brand and it does the trick.my only setback is i'm having trouble with the wireless headphones, but thats another thread....
I may be the lone voice of dissent, but I don't like my ipod. Many reasons, but mainly because of itunes- I am not a mac owner, so having to have the itunes folder filled with 20 gigs of music is a little too much space on my aging pc. also, I stream music to my tivo all of the time and none of the itunes purchases work (I know I can re-rip them)...Tivo has a new partnership with Rhapsody- $15 per month and I can download all the tunes I want...but not to my ipod...I'd am going to purchase the new Creative Zen 16 gig with the sd card slot...4 gig cards are getting cheaper and cheaper...

In other words...I have a 20 gig gen 4 ipod classic for sale.
Josh, the issue with your iPod not playing the tunes from Rhapsody is because Rhapsody uses DRM to prevent you from playing your purchased music on the iPod.

And I don't understand the issue with having your computer filled with your music; what else would you do? Or if you only want the music on your iPod and then want to delete it from your computer just turn of the Sychronizing feature - load up your computer, copy everything to your iPod, turn off sync, delete music from your computer. That's what I used to do until I decided I wanted a back-up of my music and bought an external drive and placed my iTunes library on it.

I am an iPod user and it does exactly what I want it to do - play music and videos. You need to list what you want from a portable player and then make a checklist for each player and see what one meets the most of your needs/wants.
The iPod definitely owns this market for good reason. I've posted this a number of times, but I tried a number of MP3 players from various companies until I finally relented and got an iPod, and it took me all of five minutes to realize why people loved them so much. The user friendliness simply can't be beat - hell, my 3 year old knows how to use "his" first generation nano.

You'll find a few dissenters - there always are with any popular product - but I find their reasons for not liking iPods are generally because they want advanced features that aren't relevant to 95% of the market.
I picked up a 30GB Creative Zen not long ago. Only drawback is the interface. It is kind of awkward to use.

My two cents.

I think I asked the exact same question about one year ago.............

I did a lot of looking around last year and after a lot of questions and research, I decided to go with a 30 gig iPod. I have been very happy with it and I doubt I would go to any other player now..........
I got the 8 gb ipod nano for a christmas present and so far it has worked pretty well for me. My only complaint is how fast the battery gets drained when playing games on it. I have a job that suffers from a shortage of work but they don't let us go home right away nor do they allow us to play games on the work computers when there is no work and thus I spend a fair amount of time playing solitare or whatever on the Ipod. Is there an battery attachment that will help me out in this situation?
