They are admittedly a "love 'em or hate 'em" band.

I've yet to put together a list but most albums have probably already been mentioned. One that isn't on any lists yet and deserves to be is "Here is what is" by Daniel Lanois, adding to his already rich repertoire.

Off the top of my head I've enjoyed:

Into the Wild Soundtrack - Eddie Vedder
Ongiara - Great Lake Swimmers
Plant-Krauss album
December Looms - John Mann
Shepperd's Dog - Iron and Wine (although this album is slightly weaker than his previous work, imho)
Dream - Keller Williams
I heard you looking - Rrose Tacet
Murder = - Andrew Cash
The History - Before Cowboys
Joyful Sign - Girlyman

Sirens in the Ditch- Jason Isbell
Two Shoes- The Cat Empire
I trust you to Kill me- Rocco Deluca and the Burden (may be 2006)
into the wild- eddie vedder
sidelines of the city- cuff the duke
echoes, silence - foo fighters
magic- springsteen
era vulgaris- queens of the stone age
cuff the duke - sidelines

I couldn't disagree more. Personally I think 2007 was an incredible year for new music. I had a tough time trying to come up with only 10 albums. Check out some of the bands/artists listed in this thread, and I guarantee you'll find something you like. There's plenty of good stuff out there. You just have to dig through a sea of crap to find it.
Im a little surprised I haven't seen Long Road out of Eden appear anywhere on the lists here. In my opinion its the strongest effort lyrically by the Eagles in a very long time. They've gone back to their roots and I'm falling in love with this album.

This has been the best year for new music in years. Last year was great too, and next year is shaping up to be just as good. People who say they don't make good music any more aren't looking hard enough.

By a "long time", would you say about 20-odd years?
