Let me first of all say that if I offended anyone in any way I'm sorry. I am a new member here, a long time Hip fan, and love the site, just now somehow finding time to 'stay in touch' with what is going on with the band...and of course 'us'.
Our wedding song...our first dance was 'Good Life...' Yeah, the music means so much to myself and my wife as people, as a whole...In fact many, many Hip songs were played at the reception...Anyways...That brings me to the subject at hand which is what the band plays live.
I have a feeling Downie24 may have the time, money etc, to go to several shows in a row basically whenever he wants. As previously mentioned I did see the Dead many times, and traveled to many shows, and they really mixed up the shows...but fans still pissed and moaned. To me it was, and still is a crazy notion, this band you love so much is giving there all...but they didn't play 'insert what ever song you want here' on the night you were there. Good chance I saw 'Lovelight or Throwin' Stones' 20-plus times...but I did see 'Casey Jones' one time...they had not played it in almost 10-years roughly. While the Hip may not 'jam' out like the Dead, every song, every night has it's own nuance...feel...groove...it's the band, the crowd, the venue, the people you went with, the people you saw there that you knew, the nugs in your pocket, or your friends pocket...It's all different every night...every time you see the Hip, Dead, Sam Roberts, Matt G...whoever. My advice is to embrace every moment, every time you see the Hip D24...For some silly reason I thought the Dead would be on the road forever....But you know what...I have a story from every Dead show I ever went to...At the 'worst show ever (11/01/07)'?...I knew about 15 people who would be there...I ran into at least 15-20 more....
What a great night, and a great memory...shit, the band was pretty fucking good too....
P.S.-B.Roach-Let me just say that playing an entire album front to back would be great, as I said, but let me add that I feel 'WC' is worthy of it. What an amazing record. It would be great if they maybe did that sometime, pick an album (Road Apples!), but as far as the second set and encores go...Make it up between sets...let them feel the crowd out...the venue...etc...Enough.
"We just got back from playing some shows with 'The Who'...humbling...and necessary...." Gord`Buffalo, N.Y. March 07' (I think)
