Hey Lance, where at the Marquee is a good place to wait? I'm not too familiar with it...where's the artists' entrance? And where do you plan to be? I have been wanting for ages for Gord to sign my CMG poetry book...I've never met him and, like you, I think this is the only chance I might ever get!
So...do you know where's the place to be?
I am not sure, probably out back. That is usually where the tour buses are parked.
Something else I've been wondering is how early are you getting there? I want to be right up front, since I hope to have a camera (I've only got a big SLR, I have tot ry and borrow a small one). How early do you expect the lineup might form? I've got nothing to do that evening, and since the doors don't open until 9, I figured I'd head over for 7:30 and if nobody's around, I'll just go to Tim's or something.

It's kind of a long story, but here goes...
I had plans to go to Thursday in the Square (the free show in Buffalo) with my 2 nieces, but due to a last minute change in my grad school schedule, I had to go to class. I was disappointed, but I made myself feel better by thinking about what a mob scene it would be. Anyhow, while sitting in class, I suddenly found myself wondering what the heck I was thinking! I NEEDED to get downtown and try to catch at least a song or two. At breaktime, I apologized profusely to my professor and claimed a previous engagement required me to leave (not entirely untrue...). I flew to my car and drove downtown, found a parking spot, and hauled butt toward the square...but I began noticing that there were an awful lot of people heading AWAY from the square. I was sure I had missed the whole thing and was just about to cry
when I got to the square, walked up to the side of the railing right near the stage just in time to see Gord and TCOM come back onstage for an encore! My nieces were front and center and one of them had her digital camera. After they finished the encore I joined my nieces and we noticed the tour bus parked on the street right behind the stage. We thought, just for kicks, we'd go hang around for awhile. Dale Morningstar was outside of the bus talking to some people and my older niece decided she wanted to tell him what a great show it had been, so she did- and then my other niece joined her and they spent a fairly long time talking with him. I kind of hung back and chatted with the bus driver (now that's an interesting job!), being that I'm a bit older and much less bold- I didn't want to bother anybody. After a while (maybe an hour?) the bus door opened and out came Gord. People sort of formed a line to talk to him...and I was amazed at the amount of time he spent with each and every person. When it was our turn, we asked if he would let us get some pictures and he said, "sure". The girls went first and when it was my turn I was shaking and said some stupid thing about being a huge fan (I could barely talk). We decided to move on and let the next people have their turn and went back over toward the bus- by then we had decided we needed to take a roadtrip to Cleveland and catch the Odeon show- and through an unbelievably lucky chain of events ended up getting put on the guest list. We left after Gord got back on the bus and walked away from the experience wondering if it actually happened! Jump to the Odeon show...we got to Cleveland and were amazed that there were so few people there. Of course the show itself was phenomenal- lots of hilarious conversation onstage, too. Our passes allowed us to stay inside the Odeon after everyone else had left, so we hung around and watched the roadies pack up. After sitting near the bar talking for about an hour (I guess), up walks Gord and we got to talk with him for a good ten or fifteen minutes. I have to say, even though I was thrilled to be able to meet and speak with him, it was even better to see my nieces get the opportunity. He was so friendly, so obliging with our fumbling questions- just the sweetest, nicest, most caring person you could imagine- and brilliant. He is so brilliant you can physically feel it. We were blown away- we can't believe our luck. I hope this post doesn't come off as boastful- that's not my intention at all- but I love having the opportunity to share the story and everyone I know has heard it already :wink: !
Very cool story! It is amazing how accomodating and kind Gord is with his fans. If you can overcome your nervousness and excitement when meeting him, you will find a friendly and natural person. He has a good sense of humor but is more subdued off stage. I agree you can feel his brilliance, even when speaking to him about something mundane.
Two of my friends went to the Cleveland show also. From their report it was a smaller crowd, but Gord & TCOM really put a lot into their performance. I have a large collection of Gord bootlegs and that one rates high in my books.

Kari, I went to that show in Buffalo as well. Do you remember seeing that one guy in the crowd who kept doing handstands and backflips and crap? It was quite amusing.
