I'm a Pepsi guy. I won't even drink Coke unless it comes from McDonalds. What makes it so noticeably different?
I don't think we'll ever be "allowed" to know what exactly makes anything McD's sells so damn delicious, and so damn addictive. That dude with the fu manchu should've taken a scientific approach in Supersize Me and decoded that mystery, instead of eating the way we'd all like to eat for a month.
Anyway, I emphatize. The free refills don't help either, eh?

i used to work at mcd's in highschool and i agree there is something about it that makes it better...the fountain pop comes in a syrup and is then mixed with water and co2 so i think it must be something in that mixture that makes it better, maybe because it doesnt sit in a bottle for months
Any Cola from a syphon or fountain tastes better than the bottled or canned stuff (and glass bottled coke is better than plastic bottled stuff I think), but there is certainly somethign about McD's. Also the Cherry Pepsi I had in the Bronx zoo was worryingly addictive too... that stuff was special!
If you like Cherry Pepsi mix a couple shots of amaretto with some diet pepsi... this drink is what gets me through family events...
Man, you gotta throw some Cherry brandy into that mix... make a bakewell!
Nothing beats Coke from a glass bottle. Not in my opinion anyway.
Mexican coke from a glass bottle is gold. I think it may have something to do with a different sugar, though I have no proof and really haven't looked into it. Pure speculation: I'm guessing "raw" sugar vs refined sugar. Coke from Thailand is interesting. I drank this stuff everyday and ate some weird shit over there, never got sick. Thai coke (from glass bottles), the 'Tussin of Sodas.

But isn't all "fountain" coke is mixed in this fashion?
Why then would McDonald's Coke taste so much different than, say, Burger King's?
And "Woodrov" -- many "Cokeheads" would agree with you about the glass bottle....but I'm not a huge fan of Coke per se (I'm a Pepsi guy), and I really don't even like glass-bottled Coke.....
I have heard other people claim that McDonald's fountain Coca-cola is the best there is. I have a co-worker who has said the exact same thing many times. My co-worker went to McDonald's and spoke with a Coke employee to find out why McDonald's Coke tastes better than other fast food joints.
The Coke employee told my co-worker that McDonald's has very strict standards for its fountain drinks. First, McDonald's has its employees set the fountain machines to an exact syrup to CO2 mixture which does not very from store to store. Secondly, McDonald's regularly cleans the lines supplying the fountain machines. The Coke employee stated that other fast food restaurants clean their fountain lines irregularly and there is no attention to detail when it comes to the syrup to CO2 ratio.
Is all of this true? I don't know. I am just passing on what I heard.

That would be me........LOL........well not now, like 20 years ago when I was in high school. Almost to long ago to remember........
But, I did work maintenance once in a while and it is true, we did have to calibrate the machines for the proper mixture...........If my memory is correct, it did happen every morning.........along with making sure the fryers were at the correct temperatures, the grills at the correct temps......crap like that........
