Just wanted to say, we've come a long way in 4 years, when the loonie was only worth 62 American cents.
Here's to some of those bargains slowly seeping their way across the border!
And here's to potentially the worst Canadian export year in 25 years! (uh oh)
What have you guys been hearing about this?
I heard that Harper was taking credit for this, when in reality a monkey with a suit could have put our dollar on par.
The rising dollar had absolutely nothing to do with the Conservatives.
"In the short-term, there is little to suggest the Canadian dollar is going to fall from here,'' said Shaun Osborne, chief currency strategist at TD Securities in Toronto. ``The U.S. dollar is looking generally soft and oil prices are liable to remain strong for a while. The odds favor the Canadian dollar staying firm.''
Canada's dollar rose to 99.88 U.S. cents at 10:36 a.m. in Toronto, from 99.76 U.S. cents yesterday, after earlier climbing to a three-decade high of $1.0064. The U.S. dollar buys C$1.0012. The currency has gained 2.65 percent this week and 16 percent this year, the most against the U.S. dollar among the 16 most actively traded currencies.
Canada has benefited from rising demand for copper, gold, wheat and oil from the U.S. and from emerging economies such as India and China. The country is the world's largest producer of uranium, the second-biggest exporter of natural gas, and sits on the largest pool of oil reserves outside the Middle East."
I saw this on Digg.com yesterday. Looks like Canada may need to build a giant wall to keep the hordes of fleeing Americans out.

Hopefully prices will eventually adjust on this side of the border. In the meantime, buying stuff online from US sites and shipping it here is the way to go. I just bought a few TV series DVD's from amazon.com, and saved quite a bit from what it would have cost to order from amazon.ca.
Enjoy and buy while you can. Won't be heading to Toronto for a bit. It was nice when it was at $1.50 but I doubt we'll see that for a while. But hey - who doesn't love paying taxes to support a war.
It's not so much that our dollar has risen, it's that the US one is dropping, but whatever, I'll take it! I plan on ordering a bunch of DVDs from amazon.com too, the damn things were a ripoff here even when our money was worth less, but it's even worse now. $20 cheaper Deadwood, here I come!
I gotta exchange if I come back next month! This is great for me (and terrible for just about everyone else)!
It's allowed me to pick up some new skates......
here they are 799. plus tax....got em shipped for 489 US. woo hooo.
