Saw it last night, and man..was I impressed..I was a little worried about it, being a huge fan of the first Halloween, and some of the sequals...(Busta Rhymes of course not being one of them)
It really doesn't try to be the original, but it sure does salute it. Quite a few real scares..I jumped a few times, and Malcolm Mcdowell is a great Dr. Loomis.

3 1/2 stars out of five
Saw it this afternoon and I enjoyed it as well. I'm a big fan of the original film too, but I thought this one was a little scarier. The background story on Myers' psychotic tendencies as a child made the character more menacing, resulting in a darker film. Mcdowell was great. I'm glad Zombie kept the original John Carpenter musical score. That little two-finger piano riff still creeps the hell out of me.
You're right about the music..without that, it's nothing...
i loved this movie, girlfriend did too...hope he gtes to continue with this franchise...

also, i laughed really hard when some girls in front of us at the theatre left during the first 5 minutes..."omg this is gross" LOL
