HBO really has got it going when it comes to series. I just recently finished watching the DVDs of Six Feet Under, and it is quite possibly the best series I've seen. I'm not going to list all the shows I like, because of the large gap between them and this series, but I will say Deadwood is the only show I know that could match SFU.
The Twilight Zone

Not to hijack the thread - but did you see that Kristen Bell is lined up to be a regular on Lost this season?
Veronica Mars was a great show.
Hard to place my top three. They are all, of course, sitcoms. And fairly recent ones at that, given that I'm only 23.
Seinfeld
Arrested Development
Either The Office or Scrubs - tough call.

Glad to see you got into SFU...I don't think there's ever been such an emotional show on television...i'm not ashamed to say it brought me to tears many a time
The X-Files
Seinfeld
Six Feet Under
The Simpsons
24
Kids in the Hall
The Office (both versions)
Cheers
The Shield
The Daily Show
I didn't see that about Kristen Bell and Lost. I've been in a three-month mope since VM was cancelled, and haven't read any TV news.
I don't know if her presence will cause me to watch my first ep of Lost ever. It might.
NewsRadio (seasons 1-4) and the entire series of Father Ted sits atop my list. Honourable mentions to The Simpsons and Seinfeld.
M.A.S.H.
Northern Exposure
Deadwood
The X-Files
Band of Brothers
The Office (BBC)
The Sopranos
The Simpsons
Futurama
I'm surprised no one has mention Saturday Night Live. SNL was the greatest show ever back in the 90's.
SNL
Seinfeld
Trailer Park Boys
Simpsons
Pee Wee's Playhouse (growing up)
Blast from the past.... WISEGUY!!!!
The show pretty much set up "Donnie Brasco" and "The Sopranos" in terms of undercover gangster content and multi-episode stories, and I especially liked the Kevin Spacey episodes.
More recently... DEXTER!!!!
Best TV show ever, hands down. Well, that's only if the hands are still attached to the rest of the body

hock:
Simpsons
Seinfeld
Arrested Development
Newsradio
Entourage
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
and "guilty pleasures"
Threes Company
Saved By The Bell
Those are my picks
Surprised no one has mentioned South Park. The funniest most well written of the animated comedies (low-brow content and all), imo.
Jenna and I have really gotten into House over tha past year or so. It'll be interesting to see what happens next season, seeing as how his entire team of underling doctors (comprising one-half of the cast) have been written out of a job (just for the time being, I'm sure).
I'm a little ashamed to say I've gotten hooked on Hell's Kitchen -- another mind-numbing, hour-long reality show that could easily be squeezed into a half-hour slot if they didn't have to recap the entire show after every commercial break, but I love Chef Ramsey -- reminds me of about 80% of the chefs I've worked under....
Others I've liked a bunch:
Music:
Austin City Limits
Behind the Music
Sports:
This Week in Baseball
Real Sports
News:
McNeil-Lehrer News Hour (way better than it is now with just Lehrer)
CBS Sunday Morning (if none of you have seen it, set your DVR and check it out....it's "soft news", but smart and sophisticated - not cheeeezeeey)
Science:
These are old shcool, but were phenomenal:
Carl Sagan's COSMOS series
David Attenborough's Life on Earth (1979) and The Living Planet (1984)
Drama:
Deadwood
Sopranos
X-Files
Comedy:
Simpsons
Seinfeld
News Radio
Just Shoot Me
Third Rock from the Sun (good writing, GREAT acting...vastly under-appreciated)
SNL in the late 80s-early 90s (as hip420 points out). Just look at this cast from 1990-1991:
Dana Carvey
Phil Hartman
Jan Hooks
Victoria Jackson
Dennis Miller
Mike Myers
Kevin Nealon
A. Whitney Brown (F)
Chris Farley
Al Franken
Tim Meadows
Chris Rock
Adam Sandler
Rob Schneider
David Spade
Julia Sweeney
Esthete I also really like Hell's Kitchen, but I like his other show Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares better.
Can't believe I forgot to mention House, which is easily the best medical drama on TV. Grey's Anatomy pales in comparison.
