Can anyone tell me about the song "Land"?
It sounds like a collaboration with Joe Strummer, Bono, Gord, and Peter Garrett, but I'm not sure. I can't find anything about it on the web. When did the recording take place? Did they cut any other songs?

Land CD Single
1993
This single was produced, written and performed in a combined effort with many other bands. A fund to protect the rainforests of British Columbia
#1 - Land
On July 15, 1993, Australian rock band Midnight Oil performed at one of the blockades to help raise global awareness about the clearcutting controversy in Clayoquot Sound. Later that month, they joined Daniel Lanois, the Tragically Hip, Hothouse Flowers and Crash Vegas to record Land. The proceeds of the single, written by Jim Moginie and Rob Hirst of Midnight Oil, went to the legal defence of arrested protestors.
I recall hearing about this way back in 93 at ARA. Peter Garret went off about our Prime Minister Mulroney and little did he know Mulroney got beat out a few months earlier by Jean Creatien. He went on to tell us all about it and that we should do something about the clear cutting and the destruction of the Rain Forest. Then im sure they went into the song Beds are Burning.

Does Midnight Oil have anything else worth listening to....their concerts must be 15 versions of Beds are Burning in different keys. I never got the love this band gets...especially around here. Not my cup of tea I guess!!
Yes they were interesting live but really I bought the CD they were touring with at the time. I never really listen to it much anymore. Did you know that Peter Garret is now a politician in Austrailia. He got elected.
Actually they had a pretty good set. The crowd was really diggin it. Very energetic even if the crowd knew probably only half the songs.
As I remember at ARA 93 in Toronto they stopped the show when some people started crowd surfing. What a show!!!!
Cheers Aaron
I remember ARA 93 and I remember they slowed right down and just kept a beat and Gord told us all to basically calm down and swim thru the crowd if we needed to get out. That didnt seem to work and he said that " its more fucked up than I thought" and told us to "DO IT" this calmed the crowd down and he had us all put our arms up in the sky and wiggle our fingers. After that they went right back at it and it was chaos again.
WHAT A SHOW is right. That one and the one in 95 were CRAZY. The only other things that have even come close was the mosh pit during finger11 when we saw them and a Silverstien concert I took my daughter to. Also Vans tour 2006 last summer during The Casualties was a bit crazy and Billy Talant was nuts but for an entire 30,000 people going nuts. You cant beat those 93 and 95 shows.
It weirds me out to see Billy Talent and 30,00 people in the same sentence. When I reviewed them they played for 200!
I did not really like Billy Talant when I heard them on the radio but my 10 year old plays them a lot and it actaully rubbed off on me. But I wonder if they can keep it going with that style of music. They will have to expand and grow and not do the same stuff over and over.
I see them as probably the last in the line of the pop-punk bands that grew to prominence in the nieties (Greenday and Blink 182, then Sum 41, now Billy Talent).
They weren't bad, but they had nothing truly unique. Great drummer though!
Nothing Unique? That guitar players HAIR is OUT THERE. hehe O U mean the music. Yes it all kind of blends together after a bit.

Blends together? I think not. Midnight Oil were easily one of the most consistently brilliant rock bands of the last 25 years. They have plenty of great material besides "Beds are Burning", specifically the amazing albums Place Without a Postcard, Diesel and Dust, Blue Sky Mining, Earth and Sun and Moon, and their live album, Scream in Blue. Even their final album Capricornia was excellent.

Dude, he was talking about Billy Talent, not Midnight Oil.

Oops. My apologies.
Speaking of the real Billy Talent, Hugh Dillon mentioned on The Hour that they are working on the script for Hard Core Logo 2!!!!
(For those who are lost... Billy Talent the band took their name from a character in the film Hard Core Logo. Hugh Dillon starred in it as Joe Dick.)
