Upon listening to many shows in which the crowd has the oppurtunity to ask the band some questions, I (Like many others do I'm sure) ponder what one question I would ask them band if I could. But then I listen to these shows some more (Especially the GD solo I&I) it seems to me that with every question that gets asked of them, the boys seem to answer in a very nonchalant fashion, trying to be comical and almost avoiding each question. Watching the GD I&I, it seemed as if he didn't even care, and kind of dodged every question...some of these questions asked in the past have been really good, really insightful, while some have been the standard "You're my God" type deal. Do you think they view these sort of things as mere formalities, and possibility dismiss every question before it is even asked? Maybe I'm just paranoid, but after listening to these shows, the general attitude toward answering questions seems uncanny....any thoughts? I personally have never met the band, so I couldn't judge these things vs. real conversations with the band...what does everyone think?
Well, I have kind of noticed that aswell. They are not "cocky" in the way they act. It almost seems as if they don't want to be "Gods" in people's eyes. They probably just feel like everyday guys playing in a band.
I could be wrong... All I know is that Gord S always does a good job answering questions.
I agree,
It explains to me why they are not huge. They do not act spoiled, arrogant and obnoxious. They aren't and their music isn't. It seems that if you want to make it these days, you must perform shameless self promotion and you must sell out - like say Default and others have tried.
Except for the odd comment from a couple of them once in a while, they all seem to be on the same page, not wanting to take the raod that leads to selling out and having the responsiblity that comes with it.
I truly believe that they meant to end up like this and they are happy like this. Frankly the reason they answer their questions the way they do is that they are a bit "small town" or "hicky" - they are simple guys.
When I had a store in Vancouver, I was approached many times to "go big", but all I could see was me losing grip, losing control and most importantly I did not want others deciding what's best for my business. If I did go big, I probabaly would have made a few more bucks, but for a lot more grief and at the risk of selling out and having it all collapse without my control.
In other words, I like the Hip's philosophy - keep it simple.
Mats.
P.S. Question: How many bands have made a great living for over 16 years while remaining friends and keeping the same original line-up? No really, how many?
They keep it simple...
Yes I have noticed that as well when it comes to answering questions, but in thier defence they are not being rude to their fans, maybe to some degree thats why they don't get to into it becuase they don't want to hurt a fans feelings??

cratch: I think Gord Sinclair is the kinda spokes person for the band when it comes to certaiin questions and occasions i've experienced. he is so down to earth it's almost scary :thumb: :thumb:
My feelings would be hurt if I thought long and hard about what I would ask the band, and really wanted to know, but upon asking them, they kinda shrugged me off, making a joke instead...but to TOTALLY agree with Mats, he made a great point, how many bands have stayed together for this long, and continually made great records? To the best of my knowledge, the Hip first started jamming together as far back as '83...so they've been playin together as long as I've been alive...yikes...
isn't Aerosmith anither band that has retained it's original members?

Yeah, I would probably feel let down too.
Also, that was a good question about how many bands are still together. The only one that I can think of is at the time is U2.
areosmith now has all originals back but at times over thier career they have had replacements for joe perry, brad whitford and joey cramer
plus their albums all sound the same since pump well go with what works
on a side note their book walk this way is a very good read.
