There is a big article on the Rheos in the What's On section of today's Toronto Star. I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but the picture on the cover page of the newspaper article is circa 1980! I didn't even recognize them.
Here's a link to read it online:
Rheostatics' Swan Song
I stumbled upon this in the Globe this morning as well:

Bidini's article is mind blowing. "After surviving Thunder Bay, the rest was easy" -- I think I'm going to say that at my wedding.
Cha Gheli Rheos... we'll miss you.
Pat
Quote:"I think maybe they're a little too good for their own good," the Tragically Hip's Robbie Baker remarked to me in 1997
That's a pretty big compliment, if you ask me
One of the greatest Canadian bands of all time, period. In my opinion they deserve a spot in the Hall of Fame right beside the Hip, Neil, Joni, and Mr. Lightfoot. Without bands like the Rheos paving the way, today's hugely successful Canadian indie-rock scene probably wouldn't even exist. These guys are the original pioneers, and hey will be missed. Bidini's article just about had me in tears.

Anybody have tickets to the final show tonight? I've heard it's sold out. If I were in Toronto today I'd be hanging out in front of Massey Hall all day looking for scalpers.

I just found one in the Gallery, Row C - obstructed view though.
That was a show for the ages last night....an incredible end to an incredible band.
The concert went for over 3 hours, setlist spanned their career and the final song saw the band climb down from the stage, with 1 acoustic guitar and a couple of microphones, in the middle aisle of the floor seats in the centre of Massey Hall singing Record Body Count....one of the most memorable shows I've ever seen.
Damn, I really wish I could've been there. Sounds like it was a fantastic show. I'm gonna miss this band.
Agreed, one of the best shows I've ever seen.
Highlights for me were Christopher, Stolen Car, the snow falling during the 1st ending, former drummers joining them a few times, the imponderables acting out a sceen from a song.
It felt weird sitting all night long but I managed it ok, I was probably moving around too much in my seat for everyone around me though.
It was a fantastic show with a great, moving, ending.
I'm very happy that I did all 3 shows this week, although I suffered a bit Monday and Friday at work, each night I saw less than 2hrs of sleep before getting back up for work.
I already miss them.
Bidini was possessed during Horses!
I completey forgot about Horses, that was really good
the horseshoe and massey hall shows were #55 and #56 for me... the double shot was a perfect way to go out. I've never had to, for lack of a better word, mourn the loss of a band before. It's a very odd feeling.
I hear you on that one, I didn't see them as much as you had which I really regret, only saw them 12 times I think.
I think I saw them about 12 or 13 times, including their opening gigs with the Hip. They never failed to put on a brilliant show. My favorite Rheostatics moment was about 5 years ago when they played a show at the Canada & World Pavillion in Ottawa. It was an outdoor show and the weather decided not to cooperate that day. I was one of about 20 people who braved the downpour and went down to see the band. Judging by the pathetic turnout I figured the Rheos would just mail it in, play a few songs and then leave. But they ended up playing one of the best shows I've ever seen them do. They must have been on stage for at least 2 hours and they looked like they were having a blast. At one point they started asking the audience for requests and pretty much played everything that was shouted their way. It was a lot of fun.
