Match-up #8 - Gus: The Polar Bear From Central Park
Vs. Something On

I ask you to listen to the two songs in the match-up Back to Back, and consider the lyrics of the song. Feel free to post an unbiased analysis of both songs in this thread, but please refrain from cheerleading or making predictions for your favourites.
have to go with Gus on this one :thumb:
The first no-brainer for me, I never really liked Gus.
Not too tough a choice for me, I consider these 2 songs "middle-weights" in the battle for top song.

Anyone who thinks these round 1 battles are tough, the higher rounds are going to be frustrating as hell.....

Tight race after 15 votes...

Either way, both these tunes haven't been appearing on recent setlists as much as they should be...
Although there is no denying the sheer rawness of Gus, Somthing On is just too damn good.
I just need to remember being in Belleville for Something On.
This one is a no brainer for me. I think it will be a pretty close vote though.
What did it for me was a live version of Gus, which they played in Calgary (Oct. 29, 2006) for a polar bear who died in the Toronto Zoo (Kaneek....well, it sounds like that).
Tight race.

I think I was on the fence with Gus until that performance. I still believe something on has a bit more groove energy, while gus is a flat-out, cards-on-the-table type song. I voted for the former.
Voting Gus for my best friend because I have no idea what's troubling him.
tough one but i'm gonna have to go with gus for the lyrical metaphor and cause paul kicks azz on this song
gotta go with Something On. Always one of my faves on PP. I like the words to Gus but the music is fairly redundent to me...sorry.
I really dislike both of these so whatever matchup the winner gets next round will see both of them eliminated in my books.

Just never got in to Something On and I really dislike the Gord's voice in Gus.
