If I loved a bands second album, it was rare that I also loved their first. So I think that knocks a few off the list. So I'm saying Arcade Fire delivered two solid albums, both of which I loved from the start, and that's rare in a band, not that the second album by a band is usually bad.
i.e. I like Last of the Ghetto Astronaughts by Matthew Good Band, but their first album History Teacher is, as Matt says, "The biggest piece of shit I've ever heard."
Sorry, I think I misunderstood. That narrows the list indeed.
And you're right, History Teacher licks.
I change my vote.
Funeral wins.
The Arcade Fire are fucking lame.
Its a tie, they both suck.
agree with those last 2 posts
It just so happens that I listened to both these albums back to back yesterday afternoon. I still remember the first time I heard Funeral in it's entirety. Arcade Fire was one of those bands that everybody kept name dropping on me and I refused to check out (for whatever reason), and then one day I was listening to the Edge and they played "Wake Up". As soon as the last chord was finished I was on the computer to find out who the hell it was cause they had just rocked my metaphorical socks off. I ran out and got the album and the whole thing blew me away. Most albums that I consider 'classics' usually take at least 4-5 listens before I can actually start to appreciate them, where as those that I love immediatley tend to lose my interest in the following weeks. This was something different, Funeral is one of maybe 3 or 4 albums that I've loved every single time I've listened to it. That being said, the first time I listened to Neon Bible was while I was on a bus in Greece. I'd ripped a friends copy onto my iPod before I went and was expecting big things. I got something rather different then expected. The only songs that really stood out and kicked me in the gut (like all of Funeral had) were Anti-Christ Television Blues and My Body is a Cage. The more I listened to it the more I've grown to love it just not in the same unconditional way as is with Funeral. Like it's already been said, Neon Bible is a very good album, coming from a band with the weight of the Indie rock world on it's shoulders. Funeral on the other hand is an album that touchess greatness, and comes from a band that very few expected anything from. I think had Funeral never been released Neon Bible would have been a fairly successful album in Indie circles, but not the worldwide phenomenon that Funeral has made it.
