Wilco (The Thread)
#1

I'm just assuming there's lots of Wilco fans here on Hipbase... because lets face it. Wilco is one of the most talented group of musicians ever compiled together. I don't think they have made a single dud record, and their discography takes you many different places.

Along with The Hip, Wilco are in my top three favourite bands. If you've never listened to their albums, I strongly suggest trying out a listen.

Live, Wilco pulls off beautiful live renditions of their complex music. 'Ashes Of American Flags' is an amazing tour documentary jammed packed with live performances.

Nobody can argue that Nels Cline isn't one of the greatest guitarists of all time.

Any other fans/fanatics?

Hands down one of the best rock n' roll bands in the world. I've been a fan since the late 90s when I first saw them live on the '97 ARA tour. Since then I've seen them live about 6 times, and every show has been amazing. I own just about everything they've ever put out, including the above mentioned "Ashes of American Flags", as well as their other excellent documentary "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart", which I highly recommend for anyone who hasn't seen it. It's basically a 'making of' doc about the difficult birth of their 2002 masterpiece "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" and their subsequent battle with Reprise records over the album's release. Fascinating stuff.

These are the first two songs I've heard from this band, absolutely love the guitar work and different layers theay are able to create. I'm looking forward to listening to more of this stuff. Thanks!

Wilco has starting releasing live recordings. Just picked up 'Roadcase 001' Live at Red Rocks. Sounds fantastic and an equally fantastic setlist!

I've seen Wilco probably 15 times - first time at The Horseshoe when Being There was released, then ARA, and probably every tour since then bar maybe one. They are such a phenomenally amazing band and every album is something different. Being There is a sweet double album. Summerteeth is even better and makes me sad when I hear it as it really had Jay Bennett all over it. Too many amazing songs but yes Nels on guitar has totally revitalized the lineup and their live show. He is a fucking monster live and truly one of the most talented guitarists out there. Sky Blue Sky is such an underrated album as well - you want to hear beauty listen to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4ploH5P8KU. Not to slag the Hip whom I love but I like Every Single Wilco album more than any album the Hip has released since maybe Music At Work.

Good time to revive this thread. Jeff Tweedy is publishing his first official memoir, coming out November 13th. Can't wait to read this!

Quote:The singer, guitarist, and songwriter, best known for his work with Wilco, opens up about his past, his songs, the music, and the people that have inspired him.

Few bands have inspired as much devotion as the Chicago rock band Wilco, and it’s thanks, in large part, to the band’s singer, songwriter, and guiding light: Jeff Tweedy. But while his songs and music have been endlessly discussed and analyzed, Jeff has rarely talked so directly about himself, his life, and his artistic process.

Until now. In his long-awaited memoir, Jeff will tell stories about his childhood in Belleville, Illinois; the St. Louis record store, rock clubs, and live-music circuit that sparked his songwriting and performing career; and the Chicago scene that brought it all together. He’ll also talk in-depth about his collaborators in Uncle Tupelo, Wilco, and more; and write lovingly about his parents, wife Susie, and sons, Spencer and Sam.

Honest, funny, and disarming, Tweedy’s memoir will bring readers inside both his life and his musical process, illuminating his singular genius and sharing his story, voice, and perspective for the first time.
