What's next for Rob, Paul, Johnny & Gord S.?
#1

We miss Gord. Sad Still hard to believe he's gone. But what about the rest of the guys? Will they play in other bands? Will they release previously unreleased Hip material? It would be nice to hear some kind of news from them because from what I was hearing, they were working on things last year. I don't know what is was but is was something. Thoughts?

Gord S. is producing and playing dates with Miss Emily, same for Rob. Paul is doing some Campfire Liars Club dates here and there. Who knows with Johnny?

Still a bit too early I think to see anything "hip related" in my opinion. Its probably going to take a while for all the guys to find footing sort of speak. The Hip have been their entire life, a huge change for all of them.

Besides, I think its a bit too soon to jump into the vault or start releasing B-sides or anything like that. If that started to happen now, it might look like a cash grab. I would guess maybe in 5 years from now you might start seeing stuff like that trickle out. Maybe the so called "second album" of MMP will be released, but aside from that, I am guessing you won't see anything for a few years from other stuff.

I have said it before many times, I still think there will be a huge tribute concert (ala Freddy Mercury or Leonard Cohen) that takes place, perhaps this summer where the guys play with other guest musicians, but aside from that, I think its going to be pretty quiet from them on the Hip side.

Rob seems to have become a pimp:

Is Gord touring with her? He wasn't at the Toronto show this week; Rob was, but it seems like it might've been a one-off band.

Well, Paul Langlois will surely release more solo work. Even Stripper's Union may pop up every now and then (although I get the impression that Rob B is the most content to be 'semi-retired'). Their various business interests in wine, pot, etc., will continue to percolate. They've got the Bathouse to oversee, Gord S and Paul will do some producing, etc., etc.

In short, most of 'em will likely keep busy, but not in ways likely to exhilarate most of us...or so I'd guess. I'm really hoping a Gord S solo album comes out. Has he continued to hone his songwriting chops since Gord D shoved him aside, or has he simply moved on? I guess we'll find out.

I agree with everybody, a tribute show and - especially - 'B-sides and Rarities' releases will be the main things to look forward to from this quarter.

Saw that picture last night, at first I thought it was Bill Welychka (who also lives in Kingston now)

5 years? I doubt it will be that long. Even though they're no longer a working band, the Hip's catalogue still provides a revenue stream for the guys and their families, including Gord's. After Gord got sick, I'm sure the band got together with their management and their label, and drew up plans for their catalogue going forward. We've already seen them roll out new vinyl reissues and the bluray/DVD releases of the Kingston show and the Long Time Running doc. I wouldn't be surprised if we see more stuff trickle out either later this year, or early 2019.

I’ve though about this too. I figure Sinclair will produce a ton of new Can-rock, Baker will eventually be mayor of Kingston, Johnny will be a pretty good dad and Paul will continue to kick ass. Pretty decent legacy in my eyes.

I'd like to see another solo record from Paul. I enjoy his stuff.

In an interview, Baker said he actually sent in the application for Senate of Canada.

I think fourth quarter of 2018 would be a fine time for an album. It will have been a year since Downie's death, an appropriate amount of time to wait without making it seem like it was expedited for a cash grab. From a commercial standpoint (although this has probably become less relevant since the band became pot multi-millionaires), it makes sense as well. There is still considerable heightened interest in the band.

I'm all for releases and merch and stuff but without Gord I don't want the guys to put on any type of Hip performance. It's all five or nothing.

I'm hoping Johnny hooks up with some established band and hits the big time. Everyone always needs a drummer and he's a pro's pro.
