Another fantastic sounding vinyl worth getting is Rare Bird Alert by Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers. Beautiful bluegrass.
Here's a little taste. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jc2pD2adh8

I got a bunch as well... Goo Goo Dolls - Dizzy Up The Girl Smile and Last Shadow Puppets new album and a few others I can't think of off the top of my head.

Are there any big collectors here? Or people with big collections? I hate to use the term collectors because it somewhat implies that people don't play their vinyl and just keep it sealed and "mint". I have a bunch that are worth a pretty penny, but even those I play once and usually have standard copies that I'll play more often.

I'm part of the Jack White forum and the words MP3 and CD aren't really mentioned over there because I think we all only buy vinyl. I've been buying everything on vinyl (when possible) since I was about 16 or 17. It's weird to go into other groups or forums and see people showing off CDs...haha. Such a dying, useless format..

I've got 100 or so vinyl. While I've paid a pretty penny for a few albums I generally just buy albums to spin them.

Some of the records I'd consider to be the jewels of my collection in terms of value are

Blind Melon - soup
Pearl Jam - Avacado
A german pressing of road apples
Tool - Aenema

I also have a feeling that now for plan a will be a hard record to get your hands on

I'm a 'collector', and by collector... I mean I buy records I enjoy. I have about 400. I have inherited two collections of preloved records, and have been buying 'new' and 'old' vinyl since just before the 'resurgance' (My record player was my graduation present in high school, 2006). If you have a collection, I highly recommend taking the time to create your collection in discogs.com

Even if it cost 100s... I would still play it.

Nice! We are probably about the same age? I'm 30 in April....graduated right around the same time...

I used to have an alphabetical list of my records on my laptop and then I just stopped updating it. I now can't keep up and have purchased a few records multiple times...haha One of these days I might get around to putting everything on discogs, but I have well over 1000 and they are all over the place. I don't have room to keep them all together. I need a bigger place. Hah..

I agree though. Even my expensive stuff, I have played.. A lot of my Jack White stuff is pretty rare. Triple Decker, Liquid Filled, 3" Denial Twist, Cosmos,...I love some of the stuff he has come up with.. I always get a standard black copy and play that most often though. I head down to Nashville to his label a lot. Usually every April for my birthday/RSD and then a few other times throughout the year for events or releases. It is really sweet that there is now a shop in Detroit. Been there a few times as well.. I suggest making the trip down to both shops if you ever get the chance.

Nice!! Anything Tool on vinyl is awesome! I have a few albums, but not any of the rare albums. I have everything NIN on vinyl though...a few of those albums are pricey as hell now. The Fragile is the craziest, but they just released reissues... scoop them up while you can. Definitely my favourite NIN album.

Not vinyl related, but I backed the kickstarter for Neil Young's Pono player when it came out a few years back. I got the limited edition Neil Young one for myself and the NY and Crazy Horse for my girlfriend. They are in an aluminum case with their signatures engraved in the side. They are pretty bulky due to the shape, but the quality is amazing.

There are now other HD music players, but ipods, other mp3 players and cell phones don't support anything over 16bit/44kHz (CD quality). The hardware just isn't capable of playing anything over that and the headphones you use probably aren't able to either. haha The Pono player is capable of playing 24bit/192kHz, which is the highest possible quality of a track, usually what studios will record in. You can get the tracks in FLAC or WAV format and they are uncompressed and the sound is unreal on a good stereo or with a nice pair of headphones. I bought a pair of in-ear Sennheiser headphones, similar to what bands use on stage. They were about $500, but very worth it... Those hooked up to the pono player with some 24bit tracks is just as good as listening to vinyl. It's a great "mobile" option for on the road or in the car.
