The Weakest Link - World Container - Round 1
#1

With Goodnight Josephine taking IBE, we are now onto World Container.

So far our champions are:

EP - Smalltown Bringdown
UTH - New Orleans is Sinking
RA - Three Pistols
FC - Locked in the Trunk of a Car
DFN - Nautical Disaster
TATH - Ahead by a Century
LBU - Grace, Too
PP - Emperor Penguin
M@W - Lake Fever
IVL - The Dire Wolf
IBE - Goodnight Josephine
YF - No Threat

Vote for the song you believe to be the weakest on World Container and after 48 hours, we will remove the three songs that have the most votes. As before, a song must have at least 10% of the vote in order to be removed otherwise it will carry forward into the following round.

The poll will end Wednesday at 8:52am Eastern.

Happy voting!

If in view makes it out of the first round, I'm having you all committed.

For as terrible as In View is, I had to give my first vote to Pretend, just to make sure it got to the curb. In View is epically terrible, so that actual scores it a few points.

**EDIT** Some maniac just voted for Kids Don't Get It.

Have to go with "Pretend". I find it just too hard and cringeworthy to get past the auto-tune used on Gord.........

I raced over here to vote for LNIDYDLM. It's not so much that I don't love you like I used to: it's that I've always fucking hated you.

In View & Pretend are the clear weakest for me, with Last Noght just a little behind. The other 8 tracks though I love.

In View is fine, except for two things: Rock's trite 80s keyboards (more proof he hasn't listened to music since about 1985) and the absolutely atrocious 'I am of you' line. That might be the most laughably inept line Gord ever perpetrated. To hear how ludicrous it is, try saying it aloud, imagining you're speaking to someone. The effect is comical.

I still can't believe they made this the first single, instead of 'Rink.' Talk about self-sabotage. Confusedhock:

But I have no problem in principle with the Hip writing a lighter-tinged pop song now and then. Hell, I love 'Coffee Girl,' another song unjustly crapped on by Hip fandom for reasons that elude me. Unlike 'In View,' that one is produced properly and sounds great.

In its defence, 'In View,' like a lot of intelligent pop, subverts itself, not being nearly as jolly as it seems. 'I trust you and that makes you true, I don't care if that isn't the way it is...' Hmmm. Not exactly 'I Got You Babe.'

My choice for this poll was the obviously unlistenable sonic abomination that is the title track. That ghastly abortion cannot be expunged from this process fast enough to suit me.

IMO, Pretend, title track, and In View should be the first to go.

Voted Last Night, as it just doesn't grab me and I don't harbour the hate some of you do for the production on this album (WATS is a different story, although I've come around on that album overall). WC is a really good album with a few classic Hip tunes, can't ask for much more than that.

I've got Fly and Pretend on my initial hit list. After that it will be three tunes that I enjoy (In View, Last Night and WC), but which don't stack up against the gold that is the rest of the album.

Family Band should have been the lead single.

Self sabotage? Not really. In View did really well and reached #1 in Canada if I'm not mistaken. I remember hearing that song blasting from everywhere at the time. It was easily their biggest hit since My Music at Work.

As for the poll, I also went with the title track for the same reasons you mentioned. There's a good song buried somewhere underneath all that window dressing, but I just can't get past the tasteless production.

Still early in the poll, but with close to 30 votes in, is Kids in trouble already?

Agreed. Probably my least favourite song in their entire catalogue, and that includes the EP.

Toughest first round choice for me since Phantom Power.
