Just last night while driving, I was blasting Gift Shop.
I think one of my favourite lines The Hip have ever written is simply:
...and after a glimpse, over the top... the rest of the world becomes a gift shop.
How depressingly beautiful.

Although I've never been to the Grand Canyon, I think we can all relate to the "nothingness", as I feel a few times every summer, while far away from the city and on a beach... lying down and staring at the Milky Way.
The only difference between the watching the Grand Canyon and the Milky Way surely must be that at the Grand Canyon "we get to feel small, from high up above".

Pigeon Camera has gotten my vote every time so far, but I'm sorry... few things can beat the imagery and the sheer musicianship of Gift Shop. ...And talk about the amazing production of it! Some amazing effects in the intro as the bass line slowly creeps into the song, and yet with all of these effects, the sound also comes off as extremely raw.

But... uh... no cheerleading, eh?

Gift Shop:

The Grand Canyon is awesome. Breathtaking, literally, but even that doesn't do it justice.

As we were driving through the park, just minutes from the Canyon, I started fumbling for some cd's. "We gotta find Gift Shop!" I hollered, thinking it would somehow add to the experience.

I finally found Nashville 05.20.99, but Gift Shop started skipping with no regard. More bumps in the road when we hit the first peak; we couldn't see through the hordes of tourists and tourbuses. (And it was February!)

We ended up driving another 3 km down the road for sunset, and ventured into the Canyon. We sat there, watching the sunset, and I took a leak from a rock deep into the Canyon. As it dissapeared into the gigantic nothingness, it hit me how I small I felt, from high up above.

Anyway, Pigeon Camera gets my vote.
