Match-up #19 - The Kids Don't Get It Vs. Poets
I ask you to listen to the two songs in the match-up Back to Back, and consider the lyrics of the song.
Feel free to post an unbiased analysis of both songs in this thread,
but please refrain from cheerleading or making predictions for your favourites.

Kids is just an awesome live song. Gord puts so much power and raw energy into it, not to mention the awesome lyrics. It was meant to be played on stage, and I know that from the concerts, not from the youtube videos being posted (they don't do it justice).

I can't even vote on this one, these two are just too good. Poets is a classic while Kids is a soon-to-be classic... I'm abstaining

Tough call, but based on the quality of the videos I have to give the edge to Poets....

Poets is still one of my faves...it's one that I always hope they'll play live as it translate so well in concert.

Well, it's a beautiful day here, so the lyric that grabbed me was, understandably "Spring starts when a heartbeat's poundin", but this was definitely a toughie.

You know, I actually realized what this song is about a few weeks ago. I work at a grocery store and while I was pushing carts in Poets got stuck in my head and it just hit me... The poets say that they're artists but they're working in our grocery stores, doing useless and menial work. They think they're "living the life" and that they'll be remembered for their art but they'll most likely just be remembered as the guy who bagged your groceries. The "...universe gets altered" line is what finally got me. Also: how people get uncomfortable when they realize that musicians or writers usually just act like normal people in their real life.
