Shearwater's "Rook" is by far my favourite album of the last year. Probably the last five, even.

There are more but I'm busy and lazy!

My favourite is Ray LaMontagne - Gossip in the Grain

Matt Mays - Terminal Romance
Hawksley Workman - Between the Beautifuls
Sam Roberts - Love at the End of the World
Rush - Snakes and Arrows Live

are the only other one's that jump to mind, I didn't buy a lot of new albums this year, more older ones than newer ones this year.

An album I thought I wouldn't like, based on the past few, is Death Magnetic. It's a pretty good return to form for Metallica, and I actually listen to it quite often.

I'll admit I'm not a huge metalhead, so take my comments for what they are worth.... but I enjoy the CD and that's all that matters to me in my old age.......

Springsteen rocks as well, that's another I've listened to tons this year.

I've listened to these two more than any others:

TV on the Radio—Dear Science
Wolf Parade—At Mount Zoomer

Saw Wolf Parade live at the Kool Haus this past summer. Intense show. They were amazing.

Matthew Good- Live at Massey Hall
It doesn't sound live enough for me, but still a favourite of 2008.

Counting Crows - Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings
Great from start to finish.

Sam Roberts- Love at the End of the World
It's grown on me, and is now definitely a fave of this year.

That's it for my favourite release this year. Some Mad Hope by Matt Nathanson, despite being released in 2007, was my favourite, and most played, disc of 2008.

I see that "Girl Talk - Feed The Animals" only made it onto Sean's list. I'm surprised that there hasn't been any chatter about it here at the 'base.

"City And Colour - Bring Me Your Love" seems to keep showing up on lists. Is this solely the Gord Downie influence, or is it really that good?

It's decent but not spectacular. It's probably 10th in my top ten, but I forgot about Matt Good so that would bump it...

The Hold Steady- Stay Positive
Should be best album of the year by a mile. Great songs, big guitars... crackles with energy. BUT, mastered way to loud and subsequently sounds fecking awful.
Drive-By Truckers- Brighter Than Creation's Dark
Ryan Adams and the Cardinals - Cardinology.
AC/DC - Black Ice. (Couple of tracks too long, but my self-edited edition really is great!)

North Mississippi Allstars- Hernando

DBT- BTCD
Black Crowes- Warpaint- Great album-Pretty Crappy show in Toronto
Black Keys- Attack and Release
The Cat Empire- So many nights
Rob Sexsmith- Exit Stategy for the soul- almost forgot this one. Great Album!
