I thought (and honestly no surprise) the Brunty interview was awesome.

I was pretty meh on Alan Cross - I just found it/him to be very surface level

The Paul episode was really strong. I’d say definitely the longest I’ve ive heard him talk. Very cool to hear him talk about the process behind his solo albums. I think they made the effort to focus the interview on mostly his solo career and it’s certsinly something many people here will enjoy. I was truly surprised when I heard them announce he was going to be a guest - hope they can get the rest of the band to do an episode

I haven't listened to anything other than the EP episode and the Paul interview but I quite enjoyed the latter. As Kieffer noted, the main focus of the interview (70 of the 90 minutes) is on Paul's solo career with 5-6 songs thrown in. The last 20 minutes is a discussion of setlist construction, with a specific focus on the MMP Tour. Worth the listen.

For those hoping for a Langlois solo album in 2019, he essentially puts the kibosh on that idea as he states he has no songs written at this time and no imminent plans to get started on anything.

I really enjoyed Paul's episode. Love the part where he talks about the decision making that went into the setlists for the final tour, and how challenging it was to play some of the more obscure songs.

Paul: "Guys, we're gonna do Throwing Off Glass."

The guys: "you're kidding me."

I could listen to Paul talk for days about everything and anything Hip related. This was a real treat.

I agree for the most part. But there was one thing that Cross mentioned towards the end of the episode that really stuck with me, which is that we'll never see another band like the Hip ever again in this country. Meaning a band that captures the spirit of an entire generation of Canadian rock fans. The way in which people listen to music these days (streaming/youtube) is just too fractured and spread out now, and doesn't allow for that kind of organic collective experience to happen anymore, where millions of people rally around a specific band or artist.

When you think back to how massive the Hip were in the mid to late 90s, it's pretty incredible. As mentioned in the episode, in Canada they were thought of on the same level as their U.S. peers at the time (R.E.M., Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, etc..), and as far as I can recall, they were the only Canadian band big enough to convince record stores to open at midnight on release day to sell their albums. Not to mention the energy of their live shows was simply unmatched in CanRock history. Honestly, can anyone name a band today that's as popular as the Hip were in the 90s? I suppose you could maybe make an argument for the Arkells. They're probably the biggest rock band in Canada right now and they've recently graduated to arena status on their current tour. But do they have the same kind of hype and excitement surrounding them as the Hip did during their heyday? Not really. Sure, they're a good band with a dedicated following. But 90s Hip mania was on another level entirely, and I'm so thankful that I came of age during that time and was able to experience the ride first hand. It was just such a joyous, exciting, and mind-blowing thing to be a part of.

I have to agree. I just finished this and didn't want it to end.

Woah that Paul interview was fantastic...those guys did a great job of just letting him talk. Like GD, he's shy, soft spoken, and pauses a lot, so you really have to hold back to let him finish his thoughts, which they did wonderfully. I LOVED this.
