The OC Transpo shuttles will take you from downtown to the CTC, free of charge with a ticket.

(Even if you don't have a ticket in hand, these shuttle buses usually just let anyone on free of charge going to the CTC)

according to the website the 400s still need regular fare. I've never seen it enforced though.
The free with ticket is only for Redblacks games as far as I know. The city wasn't able to force the Senators/facility to pay for free transit.

I've taken the bus to Sens games last year and it was no problem.

I took it to Pearl Jam in May as well with zero issues.

I'm gonna say the driver didn't care and you could technically be fined. http://www.cbc.ca/beta/news/canada/otta ... -1.3574351 - if it was free, surely it would be advertised somewhere.

I am coming from Boston for this show. It will be my first time seeing the Hip in Canada. The OC Transpo seems like the best way to get to the show- the venue is pretty far from the main part of town, huh?

About 25-30 minutes. OC Transpo is the way to go. Traffic gets bottlenecked into the CTC before events, but the buses move quickly as they have designated lanes.

Cool, thanks for the info! Is there anything Hip-related in Ottawa that's a must see, btw, other than the Hip that evening, of course?

Umm well Greasy Jungle is mostly about Ottawa. You could drive down Hazeldean which is kind of near the arena, and see the funeral home probably referenced in the song. But that's weird. http://www.hipmuseum.com/jungle.html

Or just see Parliament Hill and the canal like the other tourists! Smile

Ha! That's awesome. Yeah, probably won't do that. Do you think we get a DFN mini-set that night, then? Any combo of Greasy/Grace/Thugs/Nautical/Scared would be just fine with me!

Cemetery Sideroad is about 30 minutes out of town too, but I wouldn't expect an EP mini-set.

Earl of March High School is not far from the rink -- their first Ottawa show, as far as I can tell, promoted by Eugene Haslam who went on to own to pretty good clubs in their day, Zaphods and then Barrymore's. I stupidly skipped it to sit in a basement, like a dumb teenager. Some friends did go and recounted a kickass version of Them/Van Morrison's Gloria.

The band played a lot of Ottawa shows at venues that are now gone, or no longer host live shows.

The location of the rink is brutal, middle of car dealership lots and parking spots 25 minutes from downtown. But the downtown core of the city and some of the surrounding neighborhoods are really nice.

Hi all, thanks for the info.

Looks like there is no reason to get out to the arena early then... except to get there on time for the show. We're staying downtown, so we'll look for a good spot to hang out there until we head out to the show.

Have fun all,

Jerremy

Unless you're looking to buy a car....the market area is nice, lots of good options down Elgin Street as well for drinks and food. Just beware of the traffic getting out to the rink - though will be nothing like Boston - give yourself time.

If you are still in town the next day (Friday the 19th) ... and for anyone else!... a local Tragically Hip cover band is playing at the Bier Markt (downtown at 156 Sparks street) - I used to see them a lot like 10 years ago and they were pretty decent for what it is: http://littlebonesottawa.webs.com/apps/ ... =265632468

Centrum is about 5 mins from CTC. Plenty of bar/restaurant options there and a bus station. I believe OC Transpo may run direct bus service at no charge for Sens games.
