2009 Hipbase Fantasy Baseball
#1

That time of year again fellas!! :jump

I was thinking of possibly doing it in the traditional ROTO style this year instead of Head-to-Head. What do y'all think?

In case any of you aren't familiar with Rotisserie-style scoring, here's a description:

In a Rotisserie League, fantasy teams are ranked from first to last in each of several statistical categories. Points are awarded according to these rankings, with the most points in each category going to the highest-ranked team. These points are then totaled to determine the overall standings. The team highest in the standings at the end of the season is declared the winner.

The benefits to ROTO (imo) are:

1) it rewards owners for season-long performance as opposed to just week-by-week performance; a well-constructed team can still win a championship despite having lots of September injuries or despite having key players sitting out of the lineup on teams that are out of MLB playoff contention so the organzation can evaluate September "callups".

2) it will ease any pressure to make reluctant add/drop transactions in effort to win your weekly matchups...especially late in the season.

Vote in the poll and post your input. After a week or so, we'll evaluate the response!

Looks like there's some support behind trying ROTO this year, so let's give it a shot.

In the spirit of 'change', I set up the league on ESPN instead of Yahoo. Some benefits of ESPN Fantasy are: 1) you can add free agents to your roster the day of a scheduled game and he can play that day (as long as he is added before the first game of the day begins), and 2) live scoring is provided free of charge.

Another benefit of ROTO is that we do not need an even number of teams.

I have sent invites to everyone who played last year except the owners of teams "4-6-3" and "The Poets" (your email addresses were 'hidden'), so check those accounts if you want to join.

If you want to play, see the next post to sign up. If you have any issues, send me a PM.

The LIVE Draft time is scheduled for March 22, 2009 9:00 PM ET; however the draft time & date can be changed if necessary.

let's play ball......

Anyone who wants in needs ESPN username. If you don't have an ESPN username, go here to create an account.

Once you have an ESPN username (or if you already had one), PM me with an email address and I will add you to the league and send you an email invitation to sign up.

If you've forgotten your ESPN username and password , you can retrieve it here.

I'm leaving on a business trip today, and will not be back until Friday.

If anyone besides those to whom I have already mailed out e-invites wants to jump in, go ahead and send me a PM with your email address so I can send you an invite. You may not receive the invite until sometime Friday, but that should still give you plenty of time to sign up before Sunday's 9:00 PM (ET) draft.

Meanwhile, for those of who are already in, be sure to look over the League Settings and make any objections or suggested changes known (you can post any such comments on the league message board for convenience)

we currently have 9 registered and could use a few more.....

I bet the spots will get filled. They always do for football and hockey. Opening Day is just around the corner. Should be great...new Hip album and a new baseball season in which the Yankees are sure to screw up somehow!!

Sign up if you feel up to it and lets get some friendly Hipbase competition going!!

Heading there now...hopefully I will fare better this year than in the past. I used to really know the players back in the days of Chris Sabo, Will Clark, Jim Abbott and Cecil Fielder Big Grin . Good luck everyone!

Can't say there wasn't sufficient lead time or reminders....

I guess it's kinda like the Yankees: "wait 'til next year"
