2019 in Music
#1
The 2018 thread was a lot of fun so roll on 2019!

(The Twilight Sad - It Won/t Be Like This All The Time)

Huge Scottish post-rock/electronic music approved by the Cure and Mogwai. Sample: VTr

(Sharon Van Etten - Remind Me Tomorrow)

Her last few albums have been great and this might be her best yet. Folk and alt-rock with some electronic elements. Sample: Comeback Kid

More indie rock from one of my favourite recent acts. Fun, socially conscious, insightful, and sometimes nice and loud. Sample: Daddi

(Pedro the Lion - Phoenix)

David Bazan's first album with Pedro in 15 years. Classic indie rock about reconciling the past. Sample: Yellow Bike

Haven't bought any 2019 releases yet, but that Sharon Van Etten record is awesome. I might have to splurge for the vinyl on that one.

Upcoming albums I can't wait to listen to:

Bob Mould- Sunshine Rock (Feb. 8th)

Son Volt- Union (March 29th)

Wintersleep- In the Land Of (March 29th)

Ryan Adams (three new albums coming this year. First up is "Big Colors", coming out on April 19th)

Glen Hansard- This Wild Willing (April 12th)

Pearl Jam (no idea when this is coming out, but hopefully it'll be sometime this year. Jeff Ament recently mentioned that Chris Cornell's death took a heavy toll on them, which derailed the recording of their new record. He says they've since re-grouped and are making plans to head back into the studio.)

Headstones (currently in the studio recording the follow-up to Little Army, slated for release later this year.)

Lowest of the Low (also currently in the studio)

I'm looking forward to many of the same albums. I'd also add Strand of Oaks new album Eraserland, due out on March 22nd. Jason Isbell and 4/5 of My Morning Jacket are contributors.

I'm pretty sure this is due out by May 31.

That wouldn't surprise me. Ron Hawkins is prolific as hell, and he's known for churning them out pretty quickly. 3 albums in the last 4 years (solo and Low).

I think I'm willing to say that 2019 will be the year that Tool puts out a new album..........

Good or bad it will be interesting to see what they've been working on for the last decade plus.

The drummer said yesterday the new Tool album should be out in April.

The album I'm looking forward to most so far this year is the new Motherhood album, 'Dear Bongo' out March 1st.

Haha wow that new Wintersleep single just puts it all out there, huh? Admirable honesty but it's not exactly a feel-good banger.

(Ladytron - Ladytron)

Their first album in six or seven years, nothing too groundbreaking but lots of good synthy stuff. Sample: The Animals

(Beirut - Gallipoli)

More multi-instrumental, orchestral, vaguely Eastern European indie folk/rock from this guy. Sample: Landslide

Indie folk collaboration between Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridgers. Sample: Dylan Thomas

Upcoming

(Andrew Bird - My Finest Work Yet)

Apparently Andrew's political album. Lots of violin, whistling, and cleverness, as per usual. Sample: Sisyphus

(Damien Jurado - In The Shape of a Storm)

Back to his roots, just Damien and an acoustic guitar for the most part. Sample: South

The new Bob Mould record is kicking my ass. Dude is almost 60 years old and he still rocks harder than most bands half his age. Those of you looking for some big, loud, crunchy, punk-infused power pop might want to check it out. What's also cool is that he's still employing the same backing band from his past few albums (bassist Jason Narducy & drummer Jon Wurster), so these guys are a well oiled machine by this point. Easily the best power trio in music right now.
