Dope hat.

I bought myself In Between Evolution and Battle of thr Nudes on vinyl.

Only CMG & IY and I'll finally be a Hip vinyl completist. So happy these were all pressed.

I got the Long Time Running deluxe set for my birthday just before Christmas. Then for Christmas, Phantom Power vinyl & Introduce Yerself cd. I intentionally put off listening to IY which is why I hadn't purchased it myself previously. Finally started listening to it last night.

Box set for LTR was under the tree. Vinyl of Plan A and MMP. Then we took the print of the hot air balloon and got it framed so that will be one more 'gift'.

The hat is cool.

Can anyone explain if there's a particular reason GD was seen so often wearing this hat in his last year or so? I finally googled & found this wiki page about the club in MN. I'm assuming there may have been something more to it than just being a comfortable hat. Was he promoting them on purpose?

Knightrider, my assumption was he may have wore it in memoriam/out of respect for/as tribute to Prince.

It's also possible he just liked the venue or the way the hat looked/fit.

Fair enough, thanks Scotty12. Here's the link I intended to include in my post above (can't copy the link the exact right page for the nightclub because the hyperlink isn't grabbing the parens for some reason, but there's a link to it at the page linked below).

I'm 99% sure The Hip have played First Avenue a few times as well.

I agree, Scotty. I don't know his true motivation but a Prince tribute seems most likely. He was first seen wearing the hat in public about three months after Prince died.

One other possible connection, although less likely than Prince, is The Replacements. First Avenue (where some of Purple Rain was filmed) and the Seventh Street Entry served as one of the "home" bars for the band in the early 1980's. In fact a few times The Replacements played the smaller Seventh St. Entry at the same time Prince was playing in the larger First Avenue. Gord has spoken with reverence for The Replacements in the past. Two examples come to mind. One, in an interview promoting UTH he mentioned that he was excited to have recorded at Ardent in Memphis because The Replacements had recently recorded "Pleased to Meet Me" there. And two, at the Command Performance from Eastern Sound Studios in November 1989 (worth a listen if you haven't heard it before) the band talked about their desert island discs. One of Gord's choices was The Replacements "Tim" album.

It's 100%. They played there on the 2015 Fully and Completely tour (September 21, 2015). That would have likely been Gord's last visit there and might be when he picked up the hat.

Christmas thread hijacked by first avenue discussion.

Hip also played their July 18, 1990 and Sep 14, 1993

I know because I'm looking at the stubs

Don't we all collect hip stubs of shows we haven't been to? No ... just me?

If anyone wants to send me their stubs as a late Christmas present, I've got a growing collection that would be thrilled to accept them  #Completist

I bought this touque several years ago because of Prince.
Either Gord has the same taste as me or he just has really good taste.
My kid steals it all the time, so I know he has good taste.

I knew Gord was the smartest man in the room. Well, at least for a half an hour or so.
