Ottawa VS. Anaheim - das_hips - 05-27-2007

Another slight diversion from the NHL forum; who does the Hipbase think will win the Stanley Cup?

I realize that a fairly sizable portion of the hockey community on this forum never really had any vested hometown interest in the playoff's (Toronto and Montreal fans), some fans were disappointed with earlier than expected exits (Calgary and Vancouver), and last week, another noticable demographic on this forum lost their will to boast (sorry Buffalo). Regardless, I suspect that there is interest, as everybody, seemingly, either applauds the Senators or passionately despises them. The great divide, of course, is only matched by a greater divide in the house 35 minutes from Scotiabank Place.

Also, is it fair to assume that if Ottawa brings the cup to the capital, Alfredsson will hoist the Conn Smythe? Likewise, if Lord Stanley's mug is set for a cameo on Leno, will Giguere enjoy the honour?

I swear there were more Senators fans on this here board; perhaps they are dwelling in the woodwork until they are comfortable showing support once again... us Senators fan's are generally a browbeaten and defeated group, and understandably hesitant to scream and cheer... but how can we not be excited right now?

if Spezza, Heatley or Alfie go down for some reason......it will be easy pickings for the Ducks.

Sure that line dominates....but Anaheim has a tad more depth and are far superior in net.

- Bosman - 05-27-2007

Ottawa has:

1) Handled one of the top scorers and his line. (Crosby)

2) Scored goals against one of the best, if not the best, goaltenders in the NHL. (Brodeur)

3) Beat out the President's trophy winner. (Buffalo)

And... they managed to win each of those series in only 5 games.

I think it's going to be another disappointment for all you Sens haters out there. Don't worry though - there's still room on the bandwagon.

- Lizard King - 05-27-2007

I think it's Ottawa's year, it wont be an easy final but they seem to be on a mission and look very good, it would be hard to bet against them.

And as a Habs fan I have no real beef with Ottawa winning the cup, I dont really "cheer" for any other teams, but I would like to see Ottawa win instead of Anaheim, they are a Candian team which is a plus. And hopefully it will piss Bettman off enough for him to give up his "American Dream" for the NHL, it would be better if we keep the Cup up here on a regular basis, just think if only Calgary and Edmonton had pulled it off and now Ottawa, that would look good on Gary.

But most of all why I want Ottawa to win, and I'd pay for the chance, just to be able to see Sundin's and the rest of the Leafs faces while Alfredsson skates around the rink with the Cup over his head...that would be the icing on the cake.

looks like the media has caught up with the hipbase discussion...

Quote:Should the Sens win the Cup, Kilgour's already got a comeback ready for any Ottawa fan tempted to talk trash about the Leafs: "They didn't play the Leafs in the playoffs this year. That's why they made it."

Because, ultimately, that is what hockey is about - comebacks, one-liners, and showing that you're a true fan of your hockey club by hoping and praying all the other "rival" teams lose. Disgraceful.

Folks, I am a die-hard Leafs fan - but I'm cheering for Ottawa all the way in the Cup finals. National allegiance wins out.

- Hard Canadian - 05-28-2007

I'm a Leaf fan as well and I'll be cheering for the Sens....so that I'll win the office hockey pool (7 points out of first and the different players we have left are Emery, Redden, and MacDonald for me vs Giguere and a 7 point lead for him).

Free money and bragging rights wins out.

The Ducks must not win.

No team named as a spinoff of a Disney movie can be permitted to win Lord Stanley's Cup. Shit like that can put the whole universe out of alignment, and I will not stand for it.

The Sens have their instructions: to paraphrase what Spartan mothers told their sons as they left for war, "Return with your sticks, or upon them."

- cochise - 05-28-2007

Sens will have their hands full with the Ducks defense..................I think a lot of Sens fans are counting their chickens (or ducks) way too soon.....

- farmerdan - 05-28-2007

I'm rooting for the Duck for a couple of reasons:
1) I'm a Leafs fans and cannot bring myself to cheer for the Sens
2) I took the Ducks at the begining of the playoffs, and I want to be right.
3) I bet my brother that a Western tem would win the Cup

GO DUCKS!!!

and why not:
4) They have the more Canadian born players!

- daylight - 05-28-2007

I think the Ducks will win, but I'm pulling for Ottawa, as I have been since Edmonton threw their season down the shitter. Go Sens!

- tigerthelion - 05-28-2007

Ottawa players like Comrie have already started the diving. :rambo: I can completely understand why the Oilers wanted nothing to do with that scumbag. :rambo:

- grimes - 05-28-2007

I'm cheering for the Ducks for three reasons:

1) Success in my hockey pool depends on Getzlaf, Moen, and Jackman getting points (good start tonight).
2) They have more Canadian players than Ottawa.
3) As a Leafs fan, it will be a cold day in hell before I cheer for the Ottawa Senators.
