Toronto - places to go - things to do for kids???
#1

My sister-in-law is a single mother of three boys (God bless her) so times are often hard.
My wife and I are taking all of them to Toronto in mid July for 3 or 4 days for a real family vacation, our treat.
My question is what to do without killing my wallet?
I am mostly wondering about entetaining her 3 boys (ages 10, 12, 13) it is mostly a vacation for them.
I am also bringing my 1 year old and I can entertain him with almost anything we would end up doing, but I am not sure if my son limits any ideas.
Thanks.

These ideas might kill your wallet, but the Metro Toronto Zoo is excellent. Also the Royal Ontario Museum has a good collection of dinosaurs. These are the usual outings for my kids in Toronto. (My parents always pay for the day out, so I don't actually know the fees....)

I'd also suggest the Ontario Science Centre, although I haven't been there myself in, er, about 30 years....

There's the Black Creek Pioneer Village, which I haven't been to for a while, the Riverdale Zoo (no comparison to the "real" zoo, it's basically farm animals, probably not too exciting for a 13-yr-old) ... that's all I can think of at the moment.

Well, there's obviously a ton of stuff to do in T.O., but you're right, it can get pretty expensive, especially when kids are involved.

I'm not a parent, but I have lots of friends with kids. Apparently local parks with splash pads are the place to be. High Park has one, and they also have a free little zoo.

Here's a link to Today's Parent Toronto - http://toronto.todaysparent.com/
maybe it can give you some hints and tips of how to do T.O. on the cheap side.

For the boys though, I'd say that the Hockey Hall of Fame is a must...that is - if they're hockey fans of course.

Definitely the Ontario Science Centre.

CN Tower, Hockey Hall of Fame, Toronto Islands. The Toronto Grand Prix is on July 8 so there are usually lots of events in the downtown core during that week.

Summerlicious is on from July 6 to 22.

As ideas spring into my mind, I'll post them...

The Metro Toronto Zoo has a "kids free" day, usually near the end of July. All kids are free admission, I believe sponsored by Today's Parent magazine...........not sure of this years date

Also, I have never taken my kids to it, but I have been told Centreville Amusment Park on Cantre Island is a pretty good place for young kids and not too expensive.............

Not sure if they like baseball, but you can get Blue Jays tickets really cheap also.........

i'd say the hockey hall of fame ($12 or $13 each) i dont know whats expensive for you. also the science museum, CN Tower (which is probably expensive) and why not a Jays game? get the 500 level seats which cost $2 on tuesday i think but it might be an everyday price. if its not $2 its $9 every other day except tuesday.

edit: so it is $9 for 500 levels but they are $2 on tuesdays. if your interested in that heres the Jays july schedule....

Thank you very much so far for the ideas guys - I'll check them out.
And when I said not to kill my wallet - I did not necessarily mean cheap. Some places just get expensive with 6 people. for example my wife pointed out Medieval Times because the kids might enjoy it - but you are talking Adults: $59.95 Children $39.95 for a total of $300 for one outing.

And once again - thank you - I very much appreciate it.

Canada's Wonderland amusement park would be great for the kids. If it's like previous years, you can buy tickets in advance at Rexall pharmacy or Blockbuster for 35$. It's normally around 50$

Medieval Time is so NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!! Believe me, its a complete waste and the food is horrible (yes I know that are making it like a medieval feast, but it truly is disgusting food, cold chicken and mashed potatoes).

I thought Medieval Times was fun when I went - but yes, the food is horrible. If they're sports fans, a Blue Jays game or the Hockey Hall of Fame would be very fun, as others have mentioned. The Ontario Science Centre is definitely worth it. Canada's Wonderland is a colossal waste of money (IMHO). It is so expensive and Six Flags Darien Lake (Buffalo) is so much better.

Another tip....if you have a Shoppers Optimum card (or know someone who does - heck I'll pm you my card number if you need it), you can sometimes get cheap tickets to tourist attractions here: http://www.shoppersdrugmart.ca/english/o...index.html
