Match-up #22 - The Dark Canuck Vs. Wheat Kings
I ask you to listen to the two songs in the match-up Back to Back, and consider the lyrics of the song. Feel free to post an unbiased analysis of both songs in this thread, but please refrain from cheerleading or making predictions for your favourites.

i obviously love both, and dark canuck has really grown on me these past few months but wheat kings has amazing lyrics and a great story behind it. i really wish i could vote for dark canuck but i can't bring myself to vote against wheat kings.... not yet anyhow.

I think I'm one of the few people in this country that's never really cared for Wheat Kings. It's one of the few songs I usually skip on FC. Dark Canuck, on the other hand, is just plain epic. The entire second half of IVL is brilliant, and the fading drum beat at the end of the album gives me shivers.

I love the message behind Wheat Kings (for the forever certain, and the forever wrong...)

The Dark Canuck is my favourite song in the world. This is a no-brainer.

I get so sad when one of my favorites goes up against a true heavyweight. Unfortunately I don't think this result will show how many people like Dark Cannuck. That's why I'm glad we can post.

Really tough one. I couldn't decide after a few listens so I flipped a coin - Wheat Kings tails (it was a loonie), The Dark Canuck heads. As I threw the coin, I found myself rooting for heads, so my vote is for TDC, even though it ended up tails.

Wheat Kings was one of my early favorite hip tunes, but the lyrical and musical progression of Dark Canuck makes it one of the Hips best tunes.
From:
If you need a good connection for drugs
or a strong tolerance for alcohol
Too little religious education
Some pain threshold
If from the outside
There's no demand for what you do
And inside there's an army waiting
For their marching orders for you
Come sit on my swing-seat
Come sit on my porch
After Ten at night, smoke your cigarettes if you like, of course
To:
if we ever get home
gonna have me three children
Apple, Zippo, and Metronome
that's what I'm gonna name them
Even though I love Wheat Kings and the subject matter of the song. It doesn't stand up to the Dark Canuck.

I've decided that since I used to have a mini-obsession with Zippo-tricks, that I am going to vote for the song that says Zippo!
...goddammit.
