I think it's time that CBC & HNIC looks at their announcers, and realize that a few choice people have worn out their welcome. They have a lot of younger announcers who are more in touch with the game who should move up.

Actually, it's not time that they retire, about 10 years ago it was time for them to retire. It's sad, Bob Cole used to be great, now he's senile, and makes a fool of himself weekly. He has almost no idea what's going on sometimes, and I hate to listen to him now.

I actually love these guys. Granted Bob Cole is approaching senility...actually he's probably there right now, but he's an institution whether we want to admit it or not. His screwups are more comical than annoying as far as I'm concerned.
Now, do I think there are younger, more eloquently-spoken, well-informed announcers available???...yes I do, namely Joe "Holy Mackinaw" Bowen (a Sudbury native BTW)...But some things aren't meant to be tinkered with.
To be honest, I think most people's problems with Bob Cole and Harry Neale have more to do with the duo's perceived Toronto Maple Leaf bias and the complainers' own Toronto inferiority complex than any annoyance of mixing up players' names or getting lost during the course of Bob's play by play. What most people don't know is that Harry Neale really does not like the Leafs at all, in particular Mats Sundin...he's told me that himself.
The CBC will continue to tinker with the lineup ie. Cassie Campbell, Greg Millen and whatever that douche bag's name is who's doing the Leafs/Pens game right now (who sucks waaaay harder than Bob Cole and Harry Neale ever could) but when all the dust settles something will never be right with MY Hockey Night in Canada unless ol' Bob and Harry aren't calling the game.

I think its time for Cole to let it go, he's had a good run and Ill miss his familiar voice but its definitely time for new blood.
Imagine a world before the "beginning was the word.”

Bob Cole is still my favorite, or at least right there with Sam Rosen. I hope they keep him around for a few more years. As for other HNIC announcers, honestly i don't care a whole lot for any of them. I know a lot of people like Jim Hughson, but personally i can't stand him calling games. I find him way too dull & boring. I was a big fan (and still am) of Chris Cuthbert, but they let him go to TSN!

if only we could bring back Danny Gallivan
as for BC - while he has called many classic games (stand up and cheer Canada) perhaps it is time to hangemup

I've always found it interesting to hear the difference in Harry Neale's commentary working with Bob Cole vs. Joe Bowen. Neale comes off as very sedated with Cole, following his style of commentary. With Bowen however, I'd swear the two were out for drinks prior to the game.

Not to mention that Bob Cole and Neale are the Worst name-droppers in the world!
"I was talking to Sidney Crosby this morning and.....
if I compare that to what Dion Phaneuf told me last week...etc."

after the finals with edmonton and carolina last year, i sent an email to cbc telling them in no express terms that bob cole is the most biased asshole on tv. could he have been more anti-oilers?? any play the oilers didn't execute perfectly on, there was cole saying dumb shit like "ohh look how carolina is dominating in this game, blah blah blah." he'd say that right up until the oilers won the game. drove us crazy listening to that douche night after night...

I could take 'em or leave 'em. Sometimes their quirky and it makes up for the fact that my team (the Leafs) are getting creamed. Overall though, they do make some pretty ridiculous calls and often seem as if they're watching a different game.
So long as they aren't replaced by Jim Hughson I'm okay. I'm so sick of hearing his voice from playing way too much NHL '98 back in the day.

I couldn't agree more with Cole and Neale shutting it down. Way past done. He barely announces anymore. Really is kinda sad listening to him crash and burn every Saturday night. Thanks for all the great years Bob, but time to shut it down. Bring on Jimmy Hughson

Need Pierre Maguire to do color for every hockey game on TV. He's a monster.
