Excellent show last night at MacEwan Ballroom. The band was terrific and Mr. Downie was in classic form. Lots of great rants, stories, and jokes all through the show. After a girl up front asked Gord if he'd like to move to Calgary, the entire band turned her question into an improvised song about the city itself, with lyrics from Gord about getting high, going to the Stampede, and swimming in the Bow River. Great stuff. Best moment of the night was a rocking cover of the Stones' "Ventilator Blues", not to mention a beautifully haunting version of "Steeplechase". Julie Doiron is adorable, especially after she's had a few glasses of wine.

I tried to post the setlist earlier, but the board seemed to be having problems. I'm sure this is out of order in places, but I think I got everything.

Starpainters
Vancouver Divorce
Moon Over Glenora
Willow Logic
The Dance and Its Disappearance
Moonslow Yer Lashes
The Hard Canadian (after a couple restarts because Gord's guitar was out of tune)
Canada Geese

The East Wind (Gord solo, acoustic)
11th Fret (slower, almost country version)
Gone
Night Is For Getting
The Drowning Machine
Steeplechase
Yellow Days
Figment
Yer Possessed

Encore:

Ventilator Blues (Rolling Stones cover)
Going, Going, Gone (Bob Dylan cover)
When You Dance I Can Really Love (Neil Young cover)
Insomniacs of the World, Goodnight

I think this might have been the first appearance of Moonslow Yer Lashes. That just leaves Broadcast to show up somewhere on this tour.

Great show last night! Loved the jams and the song about Calgary. The interaction between the band itself and the crowd was great. Ventilator Blues, Going, going, gone and When You Dance were all phenomenal covers. I loved Julie throughout the show and her comments before launching into the Neil cover were great, something about "we're really doing it?...all right..."

Good times.

Going Going Gone is still my favorite cover song of theirs. Beautiful version last night. But man, Ventilator Blues absolutely rocked.

"Broadcast" was written (with asterisks before and after it) on the Edmonton setlist (end of the encore) but was not performed. The show ended with "Insomniacs."

So jealous of these encores!
Has a recording of any version of ventilator blues popped up yet?

I just read the review from Red Deer and it sounds like they played Broadcast at that show.

I hate to ask this, but this show just looks phenomenal. Anybody record this? Or did anybody at least catch a recording of Ventilator Blues?

Steeplechase is my current favourite Gord song. Great tune!
